Liverpool 4-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Disappointing spell after the second goal, we looked beaten. Nuno will be fuming with that I think.

There were plenty of encouraging signs in the first half - though we lacked a focal points for obvious reasons. I think against Villa Fabio has to start and we go back to Podence as the attacking midfielder.

We got caught a couple of times on the break with some positional issues but we also had some bad luck. Against Liverpool at Anfield you don't get away with it.

We may well need to buy a striker in January but I think we will also need another attacking midfielder/winger if we are going with this system longer term.

I'd rather see Fabio with Podence and Netto either side to be honest, I thought Boly had a poor game today , two things I did notice: How many times did we have a throw in with nobody to throw it to and short corners work maybe a couple of times a game but every one ?

Wolves Twitter is an absolute cesspit tonight. More so than usual.

Boly looks ropey in a back 4, what he did for their second was criminal.

In hindsight a 3 ATB might have been better tonight but without Raul it becomes very difficult. I guess Nuno wanted Neto, Adama and Podence all on the pitch. To be fair, they did create some decent situations

I've never seen the point of short corners.

I've never seen the point of short corners.
They are a good surprise option when the opposition aren't expecting them but it's reached the point where I think they actually want us to take short corners.

We were ok first half and should have gone in at 0-0, second half is a schooling I’m afraid. Each goal is avoidable. Unfortunately when 3/4 of your back 4 have an off day it’s not going to end well. We looked neat and tidy in the middle 3rd without looking to threatening. Real lack of character which hat disappoints me. When we 1-0 it took us a while to re group and as YW says it looked like we threw the towel in once it went 2-0.

I'm surprised Coady didn't get booked for the non penalty.

They scored from one in exactly the way we have been trying to. Just combination of a better delivery and also some bad defending by us!

Very promising start until Coady’s error - after that, we looked second best, and pretty but fairly toothless.

Semedo was very poor but they do have great quality and pace down the left. Donk looked a bit donkey. Thought Marcal was excellent, and that Vitinha had a very promising cameo.

Jiminez is a big miss - without him the attack looks tricky but lacks a focal point.

In hindsight, I think a back 5 would have been a more prudent formation but, if Coady had just done the simple thing, things could have been very different.

To some degree it was always going to be a free hit tonight, and putting into context if you said we would have two away games against Arsenal and Liverpool and come out with 3 points I think you would have taken that

Showed too much respect to Liverpool, not enough quality and after a promising first half we capitulated a little especially after the second goal
Slightly flattering score line, but we have to take our medicine at times, take these results and learn from our mistakes

I wouldn’t have taken Neves off but we needed a focal point upfront to put their centre halves under more pressure. Having no quality in the likes of Raul up top played right into Liverpool’s hands, and he’s gonna be a big miss
They’re not champions or not lost at home in yonks for nothing, they are a level above, but we have to compete, which we did for 50 mins but they still looked like they had another gear and as soon as they smelled blood they were clinic

Struggling to think of a MOTM really. So lick our wounds and move on. There will be better days

The first half was pretty even - 5 shots each, one on target each, unfortunately their one was a goal after a huge error by the skipper overplaying his chest control straight to Salah to score.

the second half was awful, they completely dominated and scored another three.

I thought Marcal was excellent, Neves played well until he was subbed, and Traore had some good moments but that’s about it. Liverpool’s front three are excellent and our back four couldn’t cope. They cut through our midfield with ease, and we didn’t create much at all - Donk had about three ultra soft headers that my gran could have saved but that’s about it in the second half.

the midfield three can’t play together in my opinion, they’re too similar. Hard working and good at slow short passing, but nothing quick or getting us moving other than Neves long range switches. Vitinha looked lively when he came on, though Liverpool weren’t pressing as hard by then with the game won, but I’d rather see more of him if we have to play a three, at least he offers quick movement and passing, which is what we need.

Fabio has to be starting too, pod up top didn’t work.

was a real disappointment, some really irritating Liverpool fans at work that will be chirping all week.
