Snooker

Only place I played Snooker regularly was the Conservative Club in Haslemere in the mid 80's (well it was the only place that served cheap beer & food at lunchtime) whilst trying to help manage a Bank Branch where the Manager was off with serious stress issues due to a totally neurotic spouse & two punk sons (people with blue & violet mohican hair were not common at that time in Haslemere!)

Was rubbish playing the game then & certainly would be now - still was the only place sensible to eat at lunchtime as the rest of the town was a bit pretentious & expensive

Basically, if you have half a dozen pints you can still play pool so long as you know what you're doing. Don't even try that with snooker, you'll be lucky to score 10 in a frame.

or a dozen pints, have no idea what you are doing and still win a Tournament...

I used to play Snooker as a kid, mainly as my Dad was pretty good at it and had won a fair few county tournaments. He signed me up to join Rileys and on a Saturday morning U16's got 2 hours free table time. I soon learnt this was just an excuse for my Dad to get a bit of free practice. I remember playing in a Comp during the Summer when at part of some holiday club (SPACE?) and won a few and then got destroyed in the Semi Finals. Think the last time I picked up a snooker cue was in Wales around 1999.

There's a snooker table at work, so obviously had a go. As well as the size, the other huge difference was getting used to the pace of a well looked after club snooker table and a crappy pool table, really had to reign it in...

Well, if nothing else I've learned today that pool is easier than snooker. WHO KNEW?!?!?

James Cahill beats Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-8 in Round One of the World Championships

Ronnie missed so many relatively simple chances. Stunning result all the same

Mark Williams rushed to hospital after first session of his second round game with chest pains. He hopes to be back, but that isn't good.

First round of the World Championships starts today.

Trump is currently 3-1 down to Tom Ford.

Ford was on for a 147 in the first frame and blew it. Playing well though. It's a tough game for Judd.

Incidentally did anyone see the spat between Tom Ford and Matt Selt last year? Selt ending up telling him not to talk to him again because Ford said "no wonder your games take so long". All because Selt did this break off, which to be honest just makes him look like a twat.

What kind of professional player does that? Utter bell end. No advantage and the frame is back to normal after a few shots.

Apparently Selt is well know for searching his own name on Twitter and blocking anyone who says anything bad about him :D

Will Hamilton re-enter if the crowds are not allowed in?

In the Slessor v Bingtao match they managed to knock one of the water glasses off and it smashed everywhere on the carpet. Both players picking up glass is something I haven't seen at the Crucible before!

Managed to catch bit tonight. What is with the awful canned applause, snooker is one of the few sports that is better without an audience, also whats up with the coverage, BBC showing reruns of shite rather than showing the full games without having to switch to the red button
