I have just read an article in History Today about VE day. I summarise...

People were not celebrating outside Leicester Square.
They despised all politician's.
They weren't looking forward to the future.
Even though Labour won the election, nobody was very enthused.

There is a lot of nonsense in the media about VE day backed up by a couple of photos.
It seems most people spent a quite night at home and went to work the next day,

The benefit was always going to be, we vote for people who make the decisions, in the EU, we were tied to decisions that were imposed on us. It was always about democracy for me and always will be.

You could say that about Wolverhampton Council, The West Midlands version, the lack of an English regional or ´national´ government as in Wales and Scotland, and at UK level with the wretched Houses of Parliament first past the post system and the house of ´Lords and Ladies´.

Furthermore, the UK has no formal Constitution and it is one of only TWO countries with reserved places for members of the state religion. The other is Iran. To finish that you could also add the riotously undemocratic roles of the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church which is headquartered in a foreign state and to which many UK citizens owe their first allegiance. i could also never vote on aspects of Jewish or Sharia law as implemented in some parts of the UK where I have lived either.

As for making democratic decisions when the royal family has to be consulted/negotiated with BEFORE, DURING and AFTER any law is put through parliament.....

And, this is the country that most people cannot name properly and which has attacked more countries than any other in human history, at 171 out of around 200. I guess we were democratically elected to invade them.

I won´t bother to comment further on the role and tools of the Establishment in guiding us into submission.

No party would get in to power, which says there will be another referendum on rejoining the EU in it's manifesto. . Labour would lose many more seats than they gain and are only in power because they convinced the electorate that Labour would not have another referendum.
It is a different world now, than 2016. The UK has moved on and the EU are coming to terms, that they don't count at the negotiating table, for important world events. It is no good telling people what to do if you can't back it up and unfortunately for the EU, without the US protecting it, EU expansionism in the East of Europe is finished and indeed, you are more likely in the future to see Eastern European countries go back towards Russia, than more Eastern European countries join the EU.
Trump, as vile as he certainly is, made the EU face the truth, to be important, you have to be a military superpower and the EU is seen as weak by the other superpowers.
I hope the EU continues, but by continuously interfering in national elections, it is making more enemies than friends. Trying to suppress parties that are opposed to EU idealism, instead of listening to the concern of it's citizens, opposed to EU idealism is only going to end up one way.
