Olympiacos FC (A) 12/03/20 - Following Nuno, Drinking The Ouzo

Marca are reporting that UEFA is about to suspend the CL and EL

So Wolves fly to Greece and then fly home again? Awesome prep for WHU if that game goes ahead. Just suspend everything now and postpone the bloody Euros

I would wait for some confirmation. Marca is a Real Madrid puppet and Real Madrid would clearly benefit from a suspension.

Surely it's better prep than if we played the game? Players don't have 90 minutes in their legs, get home at a reasonable time and plan for the opposition 24 hrs earlier.

Lots of reports that the Europa and Champions Leagues could be about to be suspended, after La Liga announced it was being suspended for at least the next two matchdays.

Hard not to see the various top league seasons overspilling into the Euros now.

Would say Euros are fucked for this summer already, looks like Slovakia wont have 7 players available for their playoff against Ireland as they are stuck in Italy, so they will have to be pushed back.

Even if hopefully we are over the worst of it by the summer, do you want thousands of fans travelling back and forth all over Europe to watch games.

First game of the Euros is in Rome as well.

Personally I'm feeling sorry for darlowolf. He's just got his ticket back and is as excited as a kid in a sweet shop cos he's gonna get to see some quality football, and the season could be suspended!

IF and its a big if , we have to stop it all now then you COULD do this

Liverpool champions

Leicester Chelsea Champions League

Spurs Man Utd Wolves Sheff United play semi final and final games for last place.

Losing three go into Europa League. Man City Banned -

Relegation

Bottom 2 play each other. Loser relegated. Winner plays third bottom - loser relegated. Winner plays fourth bottom Loser relegated. Done.

12 games total. Less than one weekends worth of football.

The other solution I saw mentioned in the context of Serie A, which I don't hate, is the idea that you promote but don't relegate. Thus saving yourself the potential lawsuits.

So next year you'd have a 23 team PL, with 6 relegation slots. And so on down the leagues.

you would have to scrap the carabao cup to fit in the games

As I suspected, Marca story is wrong. Games go ahead tonight. UEFA meeting by videoconference next Tuesday.

They will probably suspend every competition and spill them over the summer. Euro will be postponed a couple months as well and in two years everything is back on track as there is no summer competition in 2021.

I doubt they will play the second leg though. The situation is getting crazier by the day. Europa is being hit by the peak of the infection right now. A lot of games have been postponed so the competition can't go ahead anyway, might as well suspend it altogether.

You are forgetting the massive winter break needed in 2020 for the World Cup.

True. But that allows for a precedence of suspending every competition. If they can because of a stupid decision to host a national comp in the desert, they will have to do the same when health issues are at stake.

But maybe that would be expecting good decision making from UEFA

Frankly i am for shutting the lot down now, for at least a fortnight and moving the euros to 2021 to enable the leagues to complete the season when the all clear is given.
Certainly won't go out to watch the match tonight, will stick with wolves comms, can't see the point of watching a game with no atmosphere, rather get the curry on the table in time for kick off and listen to Mikey and Thommo.

Popped SSN on to see their OTT reaction to everything. Someone needs to tell them we are playing tonight. All the talk is on Utd's game v LASK.

So they'll probably cancel next weeks game at two days notice!

Not really fair on the Greek fans coming over is it.

IMO any country that is making its own teams play behind closed doors should also request that UEFA bans the sale of tickets for away matches for teams from that nation.
