You'd genuinely be better off giving every 18 year old £2000. Stops them falling off a cliff edge from school -> no money and no job and they'd plug it all straight back into the economy one way or another. So cheaper and of more net economic benefit as well as giving kids a positive rather than a negative.

Not that it's even a good idea, it's just a better one than National Service.

I'm not advocating any kind of compulsory volunteer work but a big gang of old cunts (and some younger cunts) by us spend their Sunday mornings picking up dog shit, broken glass, McDonalds wrappers and associated crap.

Btw, National Service was introduced post war to deal with the challenges of military manpower and shortages in the wake of WW2. It was never designed as a means of role-modelling or promoting social integration.

If every 18 year old is doing this shit there will no intake of 18 years olds into university in year one, which probably bankrupts the entire higher education system.

All the 16 year old school leavers in employment are supposed to down tools for a year after two years in say an apprenticeship? Bet the employers will be delighted.
