Better golfers than anyone on this site will tell you any one not a class 1 golfer are better off with Cavity backs.

I could not give a flying fuck though what anyone plays with. If I was giving any advice to a new player I would tell them to get lessons and buy clubs from either a pro, or somewhere like American Golf and make sure the guy who is selling you is a low handicap player, and hit the clubs before you buy.

Most specialist suppliers will have somewhere for you to hit, and almost all will have someone who is a class 1 golfer who has had exams with the PGA.

For new comers Class 1 are below 5, and to be a Club Pro / Teacher you have to be below 4.

I have played for 20 years and still have lessons, and wished I had lessons when I started.
Practice is really important especially short game / putting it's where most new comers lose most shots.
The other advice I have gleaned from pals I play with who are class 1 golfers if you are not consistent with a driver don't hit one most holes for 18 + handicappers can be played with a 5 iron of the tee.

I took my clubs up the range on Saturday and Sunday and it went well.

Might go down to the local council course and attempt to play my first round on Sunday, just to see how it goes.

I'm hoping that the weather forecasters are wrong & I can manage 2 games this week. Not overly hopeful though.

I'm terrible off the tee. Never really get any height, & usually try to lamp 7 shades out of the ball - overdoing it.
Just rec'd an email of my so called golfing buddy for thursday trying to chicken out...
