The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

The "plan" has clearly gone from a new stadium, pushing for the title and regular European football, to getting the money back and hoping not to be relegated. It's the hope that kills you!

Is there a small chance we can arrive at the 11th hour and finally get a deal sorted ourselves?

Or is it done?

Could do be we won’t, we’ll be a case of “tried our best” or “we weren’t willing to pay above our valuation” crap.

We could do. Until Scott has signed on the dotted line with Bournemouth we can step in

Chances of us doing that are somewhat slim though

That'd really go down well with the player too if he suddenly had to choose.

PL clubs are probably the only businesses that can get away with raising prices whilst visibly making the product worse.
Fosun look like they’re desperately just trying to cling to PL status for as long as possible with minimal spend. Completely unsustainable and ends up eventually in one outcome, maybe not this season but not far off.
If Lop walks it could be this season.

Anything's possible until Scott signs on the dotted line, but I put the chances of us stumping up the cash at the last moment as somewhere around the square root of nothing.

Yeah we'd be fine with Lop even without additions. Dread to think what fucking idiot they'd replace him with.

I wonder if Scott will end up like one that got away (Danni Olmo, Cancelo, Ruben Dias)

Or one we dodged a bullet on (Locadia)

On the ones that got away list, only really Olmo we had full interest in

Cancello and Dias were wildly ambitious moves and potentially done to allow Jorge Mendes move them around to the bigger clubs quickly

Oh I know, but we did dream (a lot) at the time, things were positive then and it did seem possible after we'd got Rui and Moutinho in that we could get some real high quality in.

Oh how that's changed.

Vitinha and Goncalves would be more for the first bracket.

The thing is I would be fine with clearing out a lot of the squad from last season (I said as much in a rage after Brighton, but time hasn't dulled that) - various modern legends who sadly couldn't do what they previously did, the club captain who probably should have left for his own good two years before, and various shite who lack what we need in terms of mentality, ability or both. Then you don't need to replace them all in terms of numbers, use that money to bring in 3-4 quality players and add to what we have (we do still have some good players).

But we haven't done the last bit, and it's unsustainable, and there's no reasoning to it other than "we don't want to".

no transfer is guaranteed unless you simply pay the asking price - so if scott is too much, who and where is the JL approved cheaper alternative. if we don't have one then it's kamikaze management.

Reckon Hobbs and Shi will be asking Moutinho if he has his coaching badges yet and if not suggesting he get on a course pretty damned quickly!

Current trajectory and running of the club means I’d be very surprised if we haven’t gone back to the championship before the next World Cup.
The more you make it blatantly obvious that you’ve got no interest in progressing or improving your squad any players of quality we have will want to move and attracting similar levels of quality becomes as hard.

Surely Fosun must realise that relegation has huge financial implications and if they see us as an investment selling whilst in the PL is the only realistic way of making a profit on their investment to date. Unless they are convinced Luton and SU are doomed before a ball is kicked and they have some indication Everton are heading for a significant point deduction their current approach seems to make no sense. The refusal of more than £30m for Kilman just makes it even harder to understand. Maybe Mendes has a load of loans lined up?

You make far too many assumptions about how much Fosun know or care about the footballing realities of the situation we're currently in. We're just a plaything they don't want any more.

Also, in the grand scheme of things, if Wolves are relegated and they lose a couple of hundred million, it's chicken feed.

(Which makes their desire to not invest some cash baffling too)
