He may develop into a good footballer, but that's way less pertinent than the fact that he's never, ever going to do it here - too much water under the bridge, and he hasn't had any interest in doing so for years (if he ever did).
Turning into a good footballer wouldn't change the view on it being a spectacular failure for us.
Cost far too much and took too long to get to a stage where he could be the Raul replacement he was meant to be. Actively harmed our plans long term in the end. Whilst the Raul injury was unforseen compared to what you would expect during a typical season. Had we not had such an outlay on FS we could have then moved for a longer term replacement during January, rather than what we ended up doing.
Silva, the generational talent who’s going to equal Ronaldo according to Jeff
Silva 23yo, 153 appearances 30 goals
Ronaldo aged 23, 223 appearances 87 goals
Specifically, the comparison to Ronaldo was made in relation to Silva's potential and the fact that he was a highly-rated young Portuguese player. Several reports also mentioned the comparison, noting that Silva had been tipped as a potential heir to Ronaldo. While Shi didn't explicitly state "Fabio Silva is the next Ronaldo", the comparisons were certainly made in the context of his signing
I'm sure I read that some people were even heralding Guedes as a possible next Ronaldo when he was younger FFS, so I think that shit was getting thrown around pretty casually!

Agreed. Wouldn’t suprise me if he had a decent career. Doesn’t forgive the fact that buying a project/potential as your record signing was absolute barmy, as already been discussed.
Ironically, if you were buying Fabio based on last years record you probably wouldn’t be too annoyed with the fee. We will have an entrenched opinion because of how he was signed and the years after.
