Wolves 2-2 Spurs: EFL Cup 3rd Rd - Bah Lost on Penalties Verdict Thread

Good game, did very well not to collapse because it looked like it'd be six at one point, but unlucky in the end.

All the penalties were wank barring Joao, his wasn't exactly brilliant either. One thing I noticed, and probably one for the coaches, was that the run ups looked really straight, surely you're better coming in from like a 45 degree angle?

RAN looked quality, as did Podence. Not convinced with Hwang tbh, didn't seem to have bags of awareness.

Silva needs to go in u23s now, he's just not good enough to have anything like a serous impact.

We desperately, desperately need a CB and a CM. Lage can coach, he can set a team up to create. Fucking back him in January.

Fucking Spurs. I hate the cunts. No doubt Talksport will be a love in tomorrow with their beloved Tottenham. Cunts...
37 mins we played like we did against Brentford. Let 2 soft goals in and i thought it was curtains. Then out of the blue we get a goal back and then really never looked back.
Could have lost and won at the same time.
If we can do that for 90 mins against Southampton we might get something out of the game.
I'm not even arsed about the penalties. It's a lottery. But it was obvious we would lose it due to our piss poor level of goal scorers. When Coady takes a peno you know you are shy of them..
Podence, Raul and Adama up top next game. Dendoncker with Neves in mid. Semedo and Ait Nouri wing backs, Kilman ,Boly and Coady (only because Yerson is fucked) in defence.

Played well for 60 minutes. Quality finish from Pod and decent work rate from Donk.

Shame about Yerson he'd looked ok up until he got injured. Don't think we'll see him again before January.

Adama, Silva and Coady waste of a shirt tonight,

Boly and Kilman better second half and both wing backs did very well, particularly RAN before being taken out by that fucking thug.

Really liked the style from open play and we have to start with Pod and Hwang with Raul.
Adama waste of a shirt? Bit harsh

I actually enjoyed that game from Doncks goal onwards, and respect for Coady stepping up for the fifth pen, Neves managed to somehow sandwich a masterclass in between an abject first 30 minutes and a Roberto Baggio type penalty

I wouldn't view hitting the cross bar as awful.

Nowhere near as bad as Neves or Donks
100% of the time coadys pen misses, donks is on target and saved so fail so see how hitting the bar is better. It’s essential never going in, no matter the keeper.

essentially splitting hairs mind, but still

The spine of the side is thread bare now and anymore injuries would create a serious issue.
We looked very porous at the back especially early on. The goal back changed everything if we go in 2-0 the game drifts away like it did Saturday. Good to come back and show some good spirit.
Having said that still feel we’ve got a multitude of problems that aren’t going away soon.

I thought Donk did well - upped his game, playing for his place.

We were much better second half, plenty to like.

Remember, we made 9 changes - hardly surprising we weren’t too fluid.

Adama was poor really - if he’d have been on his game, we might have nicked it.

I’d say loan Fabio out - but I think Walsall are ok for centre towards this season.

Some pieces of old Adama tonight, losing the ball trying to run from just outside the box, receiving the ball and standing there for a few seconds just to let opposition players sort themselves out, I honestly think he puts his head down runs till he sees a chalk line and then just wraps his foot round it, plenty of bodies in the box so he can't use that excuse,

I don't think we'll see much of Fabio this season now. A loan to a Portuguese team in Jan probably is the best option for everyone.

The front 3 needs to Podence, Hwang and Raul. We may see a better Raul with some proper players around him. Trincao & Adama as options off the bench.

Wouldn’t be against that front 3. I’d potentially argue about not starting Raul and playing a fluid 3 but with Southampton likely playing deep Raul as a focal point will be important.

agree with Silva also. Now we have 5 fit options for the front 3 players with Neto to come back send him out on loan for some game time

Was going to say I think Raul would benefit with either Pod/Hwang upfront with him in a 3-5-2 (both are quite Jota-esque) or behind him in a 3-4-2-1.
Too late I already posted that on another thread🤣

Yerson was walking around at the back of the dugout towards the end of the 2nd half, didn't seem to be limping or have any ice on so hopefully it's not too bad.

My word Fabio Silva. “Give him 3 years and then we will turn a profit”. Honestly have a word with yourselves.

He slow, his touch is dreadful and he can’t pass. Even if he was the best player in the world it would be irrelevant as he’s too slow to actually have any effect at this level. League one then your nouse might count for something.

“he’s got great movement”. Does he fuck. He makes runs down the channels and in behind but as he has the pace of a slug rendering it useless.

My highlight of his ineptitude being when RAN had It on the left side and had a 1 v 1 against the FB. Silva then decides to make a run down the channel taking away all his space whilst at the Same time removing the only pass he had available. This guy is literally the best dribbler on the pitch and we’ve finally got him isolated against them in a good position with loads of space. Run the other direction, create some space, so when he likely does beat him he can square it to you for a tap in.

Fuck me. If he didn’t play we’d have probably won tonight. If we’d never signed him I’d wager we’d not be in the general mess we’ve been in for 12 months.

Can't comment on the game as just been at Arsenal v Wimbledon (away end) and all I can say is we dodged a fucking bullet with Maitland-Niles. Also Emirates, nice stadium, awful home support - didn't make a noise and left 5 mins before half and full time.
