The commentary was utterly bizarre. Tyldesley has always been shit and he was just himself in the first half, but it was like they'd put something in his tea at half time. Started off with some bizarre sub-Partridge riff about how Stockley Park is like Alton Towers for refs (this seemed to last an eternity even though I'm sure it was only a matter of seconds. Did feel like death was a better option though than continuing to listen) and never improved from there.
Anyway.
I don't think it's a formation flaw.
Not so sure on the Semedo stick, he was up against one of the best players in the world, I thought he had a good first half as pretty much everyone other than Donck and Podence (bar the chip) did. You can pretend Doherty would have been just as good if you really want to
It's individual errors rather than structural issues, though throwing the towel in at 0-2 isn't like us and Nuno was markedly unhappy with that.
Still, Marçal looks good.
Can someone teach Donck how to head a ball please? Keeps nodding it back to the opposition keeper as if it's a cushioned backpass. He could have had 4-5 goals in the last two games! If we're using him as an aerial weapon then it's key he can actually finish. Let's definitely not play him up front.
If we take Sheff Utd (A) in the Champo away (when he was sent off inside 20 mins) then that was definitely Coady's worst performance under Nuno, he got a lot wrong. Meh, write it off.
I certainly don't take yesterday as an indicator that we're in for a long, tough season as a) there is not an earthly chance we'll be in any danger of relegation, b) we actually matched them for 45 minutes, we had the better chances and c) it's Liverpool who've won the Premier League, Champions League and World Club Cup inside the last 18 months or so.
Two big frustrations were not really getting at Williams after we managed to put him on a yellow inside 90 seconds and not testing Kelleher's nerves - he looks pretty good, but you'd like to think we'd create some danger off one set piece. We didn't, these short corners are shite and Neves' delivery/shooting has gone to pot lately.
But to me it was a free hit, especially after beating Arsenal. I'm not that bothered. 0-4 doesn't look great but it's not a West Ham 0-4 where we got literally nothing right, bar Rui making some good saves.
