Loan Watch 2021-22

First up, from the weekend:

Matija Sarkic - Birmingham City, The Championship

3 clean sheets in 4 as Blues stuffed Luton 5-0 away.

Ruben Vinagre - Sporting Lisbon, Portuguese Primeira Liga

Played 66 minutes of a 2-0 win at LWB, and set up the opener with a peach of a cross.

Patrick Cutrone - Empoli, Serie A

Played 73 minutes of a 3-1 defeat to Lazio.

Joe Young - Runcorn Linnets, Northern Premier League Division One West

Played in a 1-1 draw to force a replay in an FAC Preliminary match. Parried a shot that dropped to the feet of a forward for the goal he conceded.

Bendeguz Bolla, Tote Gomes, Leo Campana - Grasshoppers Zurich, Swiss Super League

Bolla and Gomes both played 90 minutes of a 2-1 defeat at Zurich, of which Campana played 79.

On as sub: Ryan Giles came on for the last half an hour for Cardiff and grabbed two fine assists in a 2-2 draw vs Millwall: the first one was from a freekick from deep, and the second was a great cross from the left. Taylor Perry came on for 15 minutes for Cheltenham, while Renat Dadshov played the last 10 or so for Tondela.

Unused subs: Corbeanu
Not in squad: Sanderson, Smith
No game: Dongda He.

Would have been good to see him to go into the Championship but maybe, given his age and how little he played last season, a loan to a club where he might play the majority of the games is better for him.

From midweek:

Dion Sanderson made his Blues debut in 2-0 EFL Cup defeat at home to Fulham and was subbed with 10 to go - some might blame him for the pass that put his team mate under pressure and led to the opening goal. Taylor Perry played the full game away to Gillingham - was played through for a decent chance at the end but blasted it wide. Joe Young played in a 4-1 cup replay win.

From the weekend:

Ryan Giles - Cardiff City, The Championship

Back in the team and played a full game as Cardiff lost 2-1 at home to Bristol City. Seemed to be playing from the right and was the team's main attacking threat according to reports. Broke clear of the defence at one point only to scuff his chance.

Matija Sarkic - Birmingham City, The Championship

Played in a 1-1 draw at Barnsley. Could do nothing about the goal, a great strike from 25 yards.

Austin Samuels - Aberdeen, SPL
Made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Ross County. Had a good chance with a free header that he couldn't generate much power on and the keeper saved comfortably. Later, good movement off the shoulder of the defender gave him a sight of goal and he put it just wide. Subbed on 66 mins.

Patrick Cutrone - Empoli, Serie A

Played 80 minutes of Empoli's shock 1-0 win at Juventus. Juve found it difficult to deal with Empoli's two up top, who frequently got in behind the defence: Cutrone flashed an effort just wide, but it was his partner who grabbed the winner.

Luke Matheson - Hamilton Academicals, Scottish Championship

Ol' Squashy Biceps played the full game in a 2-1 win at Queen of the South

Bendeguz Bolla, Tote Gomes, Leo Campana - Grasshoppers Zurich, Swiss Super League
All played the full game in a 1-1 draw. Campana scored a pen that he won with a great theatrical performance to level things up just before half time.

Joe Young - Runcorn Linnets, Northern Premier League Division One West
Put in a great performance apparently in a 1-0 win at Leek Town.

On as sub: Theo Corbeanu came on after 66 minutes for Sheff Wed in their 1-0 defeat to Morecambe, while Taylor Perry played the last 20 minutes of a 1-1 at Burton. Renat Dadashov also came on for the last 15 minutes of a 2-1 defeat at Benfica.

Unused sub: Vinagre
Not in squad: Sanderson, Smith, Bonatini.
No game: Dongda He

Connor Ronan has joined St Mirren in the SPL until the end of the season.

I know I could look this up myself, but could we add each team's table position in the report? I'd be interested in where Grasshoppers land each week, for example.

I'll be honest, I'm struggling to find time as it is!

If there's something special happening, though, like Austin Samuels firing Aberdeen to an unassailable lead at the top of the SPL, then it'll get mentioned. See how it goes ;)
we all appreciate the time and effort you put in @Sedgley Wolf . this thread is one a lot of us drop into and catch up with.

Sondergaard has gone back to Denmark on loan, and Lonwijk to Holland. God only knows where that leaves the U23s with Marques going as well

Maybe they've decided U23 football is a bit crap and the players who look like they're going to do anything are out on loan. Maximises their potential value to any buyer of the club if players have first team experience and are saleable.

They didn’t manage to get Richards a loan so guess it will be him, Nya and an U18 like Kandola/Mabete/Tipton I guess.

I think so, going younger at 23s is probably more worthwhile although the results won’t always be great score line wise!
