Welcome to Wolves - Conor Coady

Rowe is seen by KJ as more a left-sided player I think? We have good midfield depth now: Mcdonald, Price(def), Edwards(att), Evans, Wallace(att), Coady(def), Saville (def).

It does mean we don't have to rely on Edwards/Evans more next season and there's plenty of options should Kenny decide on three in the middle, everyone can play even if Saville has question marks not the worst option for the bench. Edwards at 29 and Mcdonald at 26 are the two in that group above 23, so with that much youth which often means inconsistency during a long season, it makes even more sense.

Still think we're three big signings away from a full squad though (backup striker, left wing, left back).

Coady signed for H'field on 06 August 2014, and we were both in the Ch'ship.

When we were in L1, so was Coady, on loan to Sheff Utd all season from Liverpool. Played 50 games and scored 6 goals.

My mistake. Quite right.

Thelwell says that we have been watching Coady for years. So why didn't we buy him from Liverpool last year instead of H'field?
What was Webber playing at? Then Webber leaves us and goes to H'field, and Coady comes here for a lot more money.
Most peculiar.

Because Liverpool made sure they inserted a sell on clause in the next contract which in this case is thought to be a third of the transfer fee. If Wolves now sell Coady its clear profit.
There was most probably a proviso in Coady's contract that allowed him to speak to future clubs should they meet a set valuation.

You can't possibly know whether we do not have a sell on clause unless you're privvy to information the rest of us aren't. Or indeed a minimum release clause on Huddersfield's side.

That information came out of Liverpool, read it yesterday.

Liverpool dictating our contract terms are they? And did Liverpool put the minimum release fee in his contract?

There was me thinking we bought him from Huddersfield.

Not our terms, the contract between Liverpool and Huddersfield.

Yes, that was widely reported (anywhere between 20-40%). My point was against your assertion there was a minimum release fee and Wolves make 100% profit. You can't possibly know either assertion unless you saw Coady's contract at Huddersfield or his new one at Wolves.

I think you miss read what I wrote. Wolves now have the better deal because the sell on fee no longer exists.
If Wolves in the future sell Coady for 10 million pounds. Any profit will be clear, not a percentage going elsewhere.

Huddersfield may have included a sell on in our deal though. Probably 15% of any profit (seems to the norm these days)

My guess is Moxey looked at the situation when Coady was leaving Liverpool and probably stood aside at that time after reaching some agreement with Huddersfield.

My guess is that your guess is a load of tosh.

Personally, I'm happy with this signing. He's a young player with good pedigree. I trust kenny and his team to bring in guys that can improve us, as they did with Afobe who was also a young player with good pedigree that I personally hadn't seen that much of. I also like the fact he's considered a natural leader - were always told you should have a team of leaders, but I've always considered we're a bit quiet and nice.

He did well last year in his first season at this level - hopefully he can step up to a bigger club, playing with better players and develop even further.

I'd imagine we would've signed Coady if Saville hadn't been made available at short notice last year.

Coady went to Huddersfield 3 weeks before we signed Saville

Since we are revamping old welcome threads this one definitely deserves a bump.

He's gone up even further in my estimation today:

From a poor start Coady is possibly my favourite wolves player after Bully.

Its one thing to rip off another journalists work (and Spiers faux outrage is a bit rich all things considered) but for The Sun to pass off an interview with a proud Scouser and Liverpool fan as their own is reprehensible given how that rag has attacked the city and its people over the years.

While we’re on the subject, any chance we could all knock the “sign on” chants on the head while Coady’s our captain (in fact, just generally)?

But from a family of Liverpool fans.
