I could not find a thread for this so here goes. Moutinho suspended. We should go back to 3 at the back.

Rui

Boly Coady Kilman

Semedo Neves Saiss Marcal

Podence

Neto Silva

Donk is off form , Traore not much better so both benched. Neves for Joao. I would take a point now, especially after they missed the chance to go top against Everton last time. I fear we could be turned over quite comfortably. We MUST score first to avoid it.

I don't think chopping and changing formations and personnel is the way to go about getting any kind of form back.

Same team for me, but with Neves in for Moutinho.

Same, but Otasowie for Saiss.

I'd go back to a 3/5 at the back as personally think that should be the base we build things from, the 4 at a back and extra attacker for me should be saved for 'in game' switches (chasing game/2nd half etc) with the exception of teams we can really just put it on.

It also then leaves us a senior attacking player to come on and change the game, if we play all 4 from the start it leaves little on the bench to change a game.

So I'd go

Semedo Boly Coady Saiss Marcal
Dendoncker Neves
Podence Silva Neto (Neto and Podence switching)

Think Bear has a point though I'd go the above as thats how I'd like to see us base ourselves but if they want to proceed starting with a back 4 for the majority, I wouldn't want it switched up just for one game.

If Nuno goes back to 3 at the back thats fine but not sure why we would, people keep saying we're more vulnerable with 4, but I'm not sure thats right. I know we conceded 4 against Liverpool but we also conceded 4 against West Ham playing a 3. Villa had hardly any chances, Southampton not many, Arsenal probably 3 and we only conceded 3 in those games.
For me we just look more cohesive going forward and more of a goal threat..with the 4-2-3-1.
I understand that we could make 3-4-3 into a more attacking formation but not seen much of that so far this season.

.............................Rui
Semedo......Coady....Saiss.......Marcal
..........Neves.........Donk
Traore..............Podence..........Neto
........................Silva

the only problem with this is we have nothing on the bench to change up apart from maybe Vitihna
Donk absolutely has to up his game....the positive thing for him is the amount of good goal scoring positions he's got himself into, he really needs to start putting a couple away

I think Nuno will stick with the back four, and possibly even bring Boly back in for Coady as we have seen how he has struggled against Abraham who I think might start.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if it was a back five though, and tried to break against them. Problem with that is if Kante is playing, it makes it very hard to do that as he's so good at preventing counter attacks. They may need to rest him though as he's had some injury issues more recently and they may not want to play him in all 3 games this week? He probably starts though.

We struggled against Chelsea both times last season so will need to do something different that is for sure I reckon.

I think probably our 2 worst displays last season came against Chelsea. A lot will depend on whether Werner & Havertz decide to turn up tomorrow night.
YW makes a good point about Kante if we play 3/5 at the back. It’ll make us harder to break down but won’t appease those wanting us to be more positive in the game.
Gut feeling is I think it’ll be tight but Chelsea might just have to much for us.

Also noticed some Chelsea fans are a bit frustrated with their last couple of performances, especially with Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi and Pulisic injured. Some advocating a 3-4-3 to get their attacking midfielders nearer to whoever is up top.

I have no idea. As I said in other thread, there’s more questions than answers.

The fact Nuno stuck with 4 at the back against Liverpool without Raul suggests to me he wants to make this work.

So:

—————-Rui

Semedo Coady Saiss Marcal

———Neves Donck

——Neto Vintinha Podence

————Silva

As I've said - the performances are gradually improving. That doesn't make anyone feel better about losing in the last minute to Villa (me included!). Tomorrow is tough but if we could get 4 points from the 2 games that would really help improve the mood and confidence!

I'm expecting a probable Chelsea win so all I want is Nuno to decide what formation and personnel gets the best out of his squad and give it a few games. We need partnerships again.

Would start Hoever and Vitinha. May as well see what we have in those 2.

Bit worried about this one. If we're not careful we could be on the end of another 4-0 scoreline - particularly if they score first and our heads drop. The goal difference column is already looking worse than all of our 'rivals', so it's probably one of the worst teams we could be playing. Especially as they'll be looking to bounce back from a disappointing result of their own at the weekend.

Personally, I would go back to 3/5 defenders. I can see the likes of Werner having a field of a day pulling out wide and targeting Semedo, so at least with three at the back we can offer some sort of cover.

Regardless of how we line up at the back, I'm still not convinced we have it in us to score more than 0/1 goal a game against any half decent opposition.

Sorry to be a bit doom & gloom, but our recent record against Chelsea isn't the best and I don't see it changing tomorrow!
