The Film Thread

I always wanted in my teenage bands to do a cover of Live and Let Die and heavy it up properly. Beaten to it by some American born in Stoke…

(My) Top 5 Bond songs:

1. Nobody Does it Better (Spy Who Loved Me)
2. All Time High (Octopussy)
3. We Have All the Time in the World (OHMSS)
4. Diamonds Are Forever (Diamonds Are Forever)
5. Live and Let Die (Live and Let Die)

( Honourable mention for Gladys Knight for obvious reasons...)

If I was going to start, I would probably suggest From Russia With Love. It’s much grittier. If you go full on Roger Moore silly then it might put you off (although I like the Moore films - bar From a View to a Kill, which should be killed with fire).

Thunderball is bloody good too, to be fair.
If it affects things, I grew up at a time when Pierce Brosnan was Bond so... I guess my expectation of what Bond "is" leans closer to Craig's Bond.

My dad has told me that some of the older ones are properly nuts.

Well, Connery basically played the role quite straight, but very suave and sophisticated. There isn’t really a bad Connery film. He was phoning it in for Diamonds are Forever but the plot and other memorable characters easily gets round that. We probably shouldn’t speak of Never Say Never Again though, and it isn’t Bond canon really.

Lazenby was excellent and OHMSS is a really good film. Shame he only did the role once.

Moore is where things went full gonzo. For a start he played the character in a more comic and camp fashion. Loads more reliance on gadgetry and some of the plots are absolutely outrageous. It all started reasonably low key with Live and Let Die which is basically a drugs gang with a bit of voodoo thrown in and a very lovely 21 year old Jane Seymour. At the other end of the spectrum is Moonraker. Bond in space. Hugo Drax is a fantastic villain and that film has many fabulous lines but it does rather stretch reality! Anyway I like the Moore films bar a View.

Dalton played the role very darkly. Licence to Kill in particular is pretty violent.

And you know Brosnan and Craig already.

We don't talk about Never say Never Again

Don't forget about On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Many think George Lazenbys Bond is the closest to what Fleming was aiming at

Skyfall is the worst Craig film although Quantum of Solace was pretty bad. Zero charisma baddie who is very cross with M. The end is like a shit version of Home Alone. Then we have head of MI6 and its greatest ever agent waving fucking torches around...

Think I might start from the beginning and watch them all. Apart from Casino Royale I haven't watched any of the Bonds post Moore....no that's not true, I have watched Skyfall....ugh

Moore was my favourite. Bond is for kids really and he played it with the one eyebrow always raised. Moore's best imo...

Man with the golden gun
Spy who loved me
View to a kill
Live and let die

Moonraker and for your eyes only are terrible.

Octopussy has the best start but it also has Vijay Armitraj fighting baddies with tennis balls. I love the daft bits but that was pushing it.

The Craig high is definitely Casino Royale. Spectre is second but not seen new one yet.
