The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

Some Villa fans now claiming that Grealish didn’t claim for the foul, so it shouldn’t have been stopped for diving, which is probably a more valid point than it been a foul.

VAR have admitted that they missed the handball for the Newcastle goal.

It Is indeed. He’s not even looking for the foul (surprisingly) he just lunges to play the ball and then rather than struggle to stay on his feet just decides it’s easier to just fall. Ah well [emoji1787]

Thought it’s quite clear that he isn’t looking for the foul as there isn’t really one.

No. The referee saw a dive and decided it was foul play. It’s not cricket. You don’t have to appeal. It’s a completely specious argument by Villa fans desperate to protect their favourite

Seems we’ve gone from the on field referees making poor decisions to the VAR operators making bad decisions.
This weekend they’ve had 3 clear and obvious errors to overturn and not done so.
Reality is using the high threshold rule just confuses the issue, should be a simple case of do you think it’s a red card or do you think it’s a penalty?

That "appeal" point is nonsense, you're not supposed to contort yourself in mid-air and plead at the referee.

The Haller one is stone wall. He takes a big knee to the thigh at pace.

It’s nothing like the Pogba one. Coady pulled out and Pogba effectively jumped over the tackle kicking Coady on the way

Agreed, Haller was taken out. Pogba’s was the same as Grealish to an extent, looked for the contact and got it while already in mid dive.

And Grealish didn't get the contact with Cahill. Hence dive. And no goal.

It's really that simple.

Celtic lead Rangers 1-0 in what has been a pretty grim game so far, awful defending by Rangers for the goal.

Absolute howler from Leno gifts Spurs the lead.

VAR gets one right, denying Arsenal a goal.
It's still shit though, he was miles off...

Don't get why they had to waste time drawing lines on the image on that one. 1 look at the image and its clearly off. Job done move on...no need for the Art Attack shit

Spurs Midfield goes hiding again second half, Erikssen especially very overrated at times.

What is going to be an issue is when an obvious offside is let go, no goal comes straight from it, but it gets left and the attacking team ends up getting a corner or some other advantage from it and scores.
It's bullshit.

Woeful dive from Kane, yes.
Also annoying how many times Spurs players stood in front of a free kick to slow it down. Arsenal players should have just kicked it against them and draw a yellow card.

Lukaku racially abused at Cagliari tonight while taking a penalty. Their fans are disgraceful.

That's a mess of racist incidents already these season.

About Cagliari specifically, they have a player of color in their starting eleven! What, do the fans not think the monkey chants will offend Pedro, or do they just not care?

Our fans once sang "10 German bombers" at Uwe Rösler while we had Jens Dowe warming up on the touchline for us. Bit of class there.
