Doyle signs for Colorado Rapids

Contract starts on 1 July so still here for the rest of the season.

Thanks for the first season Kev, the rest not so much.

Colorado Rapids have signed the third Designated Player in franchise history by acquiring experienced international striker Kevin Doyle, pending the receipt of his P-1 visa, ITC and medical. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are truly excited to add Kevin to our roster,”

“We really believe that he will be a difference-maker for us over the course of the next three seasons. His ability to help us in all areas of the offense will be invaluable.

American 'soccer' speak

Good luck to him, though.

and the first half of the second season!

Other than that, yes, not so much. He wasn't too bad under Stale and had one run nder Saunders where he got a couple of winners if I remember right.

Weird how his career with us has gone, I prefer to remember how fantastic he was in that first 18 months. Kept us up on his own that first season.

Terrific in his first Prem season. Almost kept us up single handedly.

Second half of that season really, he didn't score a single league goal until 20th November, didn't score again for the rest of 2010 and was in the team and not doing anything when we went on a run of 2 wins in 17 or something like that. From January onwards he scored 4 in 11 and played much better as our results and football improved substantially.

Gracious of you.

I really can't see him having an impact there anyway.

I think he was playing well when we were playing 4-2-3-1, in the run of games where we beat City and played well at Chelsea and United.

That said in the other run of games where we lost one in six where he scored against United andd got two against Spurs he was playing well. When he got injured at the point we had a mini crisis when we had seemed to be heading to safety. Luckily Fletcher pulled us out of the mess we had got dragged back into.

We didnt leave the bottom three until we beat Sunderland did we? We were never looking safe at any point that season until Tottenham scrored their second against the blouse.

To be fair his goal against United may as well have been given to Elokobi and one of his goals against Tottenham was a penalty IIRC.

He was bound to start after Tim Nash had said in yesterday's paper that his move to Colorado Rapids had "stalled" and he was going to start in the first eleven against Derby.

Good luck to the guy, played well for us at times but obviously fell out of favour, hard working and honest, can't ask for much more, hope he does well in the States

It does seem that our form has improved since he came back into the match day squad. His experience is vital now Ricketts is no longer about...

...And that should free up wages for a couple of serious players in the Championship

Watched him on soccer am this morning (first time I've seen it in nearly 20 years - when did Helen chamberlain turn into Ivy Tilsley?) - he came across very well and didn't seem bitter at all.

Best of luck to him.

He's a top guy in fairness, he gave it his best whilst with us, and while I realise it's the right move for him, I'll be slightly sad to see him go.

He never looked the same after he crocked himself playing for Ireland in 2011 but as already said, his goals in our first two PL seasons were pivotal and I think he really enjoyed playing for us up til then
