It's Official!!: Europa League Thread

I reckon we'll get past Olympiakos but I can see our journey ending v Sevilla in the Quarter Finals. They've taken points off Barca & Athletico this season and narrowly lost twice to Real Madrid. They've finished 4th in La Liga this season and have some quality players. Fingers crossed Roma can do us a favour and knock them out tomorrow because I fancy our chances against Roma more.

Even if we did get past Sevilla, I reckon Utd probably have too much for us in a one off game. We haven't scored against them in the last couple of meetings either.

Would of course love me to be completely wrong and for us to win the whole thing - but our route looks very tricky indeed and we've won 2 of our last 6 games so to win 4 on the bounce against top European sides seems like a tall order!

On a separate subject, I noticed the Wolves media team are pushing lots of photo's out this week of happy, smiley faces in training - portraying a very happy camp before the match tomorrow. I suppose they had to do that after Nuno referred to staying in the UK as being in prison after the Chelsea defeat :icon_lol:

Sevilla fans could look at things in isolation and say we lost narrowly to Liverpool twice and beat Man City, who beat Real Madrid away, twice

I also saw Sevilla play a 10 man Espanyol (who we battered) at home and they just about scraped a 2-2 draw.

Indeed - and I did wonder who the first person to say this would be ;)

Just go in there with heads held high - we 'can' be a challenge to anyone in a one off game

No guarantee, but confidence can make a difference - am sure that most would prefer an easier tie than playing us.

I am looking forward to this game.
Be interesting if Nuno and the management team can pick us up in the same way as after the FA cup semi final last year.

Hope its not the same. We were dreadful in the first game after the crushing disapointment of the Semi Final

Fulham didn't score against Brentford in 180 minutes until last night. Funny old game and all that.

We were playing their reserves though.

A one off game probably suits us against Man Utd as they would beat us more often than we would beat them. So one off game takes out the “law of averages”

A one off game in a neutral venue is potentially a 50/50 event.

If we get there & they do (though suspect that Istanbul Basaksehir will be more difficult to overcome than they think) then Fernandes is the one I would want to stop - clever player with a tendency to drop to the floor sometimes.

Lets not forget that the officiating has been a lot better in Europe than in the EPL this season, hopefully that continues.

Get through tomorrow first please. Talk of later rounds is dangerous until it can happen

Sevilla v AS Roma on BT1 tomorrow - kick off at 5.55 pm

Not going to look beyond the Olympiacos game, but that is probably worth watching as well.

Shakhtar look bloody good against Wolfsburg. Can’t see the German side turning this around at the mo.
