Sam Ricketts - The End is Nigh

I really didn't expect Ricketts to be so far down the pecking order this season. Shame because he seems to have been a model pro for us. Not that I'd dream of replacing Iorfa with anyone else though - he looks brilliant.

Well, that's that.

Anyone else on that list who we'd give a new contract to bar Sako?

To be honest, it's really refreshing to see a manager who is happy to move things on so quickly while improving the quality of the starting/squad players.
My only problem with MM was his inability to improve the starting eleven and his loyalty towards players to the detriment of Wolves taking the next step. (just my opinion, he rarely improved from the top, just added more "squad filler")

Possibly Kuszczak and I'm undecided on Zeli. Otherwise nope. Don't know anything about Swan or Hunte so can't comment on them.

I think Zeli will be offered a new contract, similar to Jake Cassidy last summer. It'd be too early to give up on him, especially with his latest injury coming when he was just getting into some decent form at Notts.

I'll always be grateful to Sam Ricketts for the role he played last season, the positive influence he's no doubt had over our young defenders and of course that last minute wonder goal vs Rotherham. A worthy captain of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Cheers for last season Sam, scored some cracking goals too - especially in the Rotherham clusterfuck of a game!

Same here. Though I'm far too sentimental. Will be sad to see him fade away on loan somewhere until his contract runs out. Quickly became a big fan of Ricketts for the way he conducted himself and the leadership he seemed to bring.

+1 to several comments on here. Even though it was only for one season, his influence and the impact he had shouldn't be underestimated. A player who will come back to Wolves and always receive a very warm welcome. An absolutely brilliant signing for any club in Lg 1 and for several in the Championship as well.

I don't think Ricketts is particularly interested in a loan move, and KJ says no-one has enquired about him. It wouldn't do us any harm if he stays at the club in some sort of coaching/advisory role IMO.

It's sad and a little surpirsing to see how far down the pecking order he has fallen in such a short space of time given the size and nature of the rebuilding job we needed - if not expected - and his exemplary displays last year, however kudos to Jackett for being both honest with respect to Ricketts' limited opportunities and ruthless enough to not let that same good year get in the way of progression. Definitely a player who will leave with a lot of goodwill.

Strange events...cant be to many clubs that get promoted and then their club captain barely graces the pitch in the following season.
What will happen to his programme page?...replaced with a full page Footie Gifts advert?

Grateful for what he has done, coming in to help Jackett steady the ship and being an influential player in our promotion back to the Championship. He will always be a very good signing for us regardless of how little he has played this season

Free transfer that did exactly what we needed, led by example and is a model pro for the youngsters to aspire to. Surprised he's fallen so far out of favour but that's football, he'll be a great asset for whomever he ends up with.

Langers - Hunte is highly talented but attitude questionable I believe, seems to be doing well for the u21s so I think he'll stay. Swan only signed recently but no idea how he's been doing.

Hunte will definitely be given a contract. Swan has been behind Carter and Upton (unless he's been injured) lately for the u21s I think.

Can't believe that up to a dozen clubs have not inquired about Ricketts during this window, a sign that Mart Goldborg is close to making a return to the first team squad.

Welcome to Wolves Mart Goldborg!:icon_biggrin:

I out dumbed myself there, I used to play with a lad name Mark Golbourne and frequently call young Scotty by the wrong Christian name.
