A comfortable but nervy (if thats makes sense) Cup Win.

Should be talking about how Wolves smashed in goal after goal but had to settle for just the 2.

Early goal certainly helped settle the team down. The lead up to it was very good. We countered from an attempted Barnet attack but it broke down in the area when Bright couldn;t control a lovely ball from Wallace but with the Barnet defence went mental and played a mad ball back to their keeper and ALF nipped in and went wide around the keeper and then had the good sense to knock it back rather than go for goal from the angle and Bright had a simple job. He enjoyed it and jumped into the North Bank to celebrate. After that, we played keep ball and worked ourselves into various good postions. Bright had a couple more shots blocked and one that trickled through to the keeper. Ojo ut one decent chance high and wide and then a glorious one to Checkout Number 4 in Asda. Doherty was unlucky with a lob that landed on the roof of the net and then one from a tight angle after go round the keeper. Bright almost matched his Doncaster goal right at the death of the first half but a last ditch challenge just as he pulled the trigger ruined that one. Barnet 1st half chances - Doherty lost the ball and their winger was free.....he then fell over. Saville had a bad touch and after failing to to win back the ball by using his head on the ground! their striker blazed it a mile over the bar. They had a couple of long throws but we handled them.

2nd half was much of the same, Henry took Bright's place and position and had a good game. ALF should have scored a one on one but credit to the keeper for the save. ALF then turned provider again, wiining the ball out wide and playing in Ojo, who curled the ball in off the post. Lovely goal and considering his shooting previously, a shock. Then we conceded a crappy goal Short corner, floated in ball, 4 players go for the ball and it drops perfectly for their lad to smash home from 6 yards. After that, Iorfa should have scored but another good save from the keeper. ALF had a chance to play in Henry but went for goal and was challenged just inside the goal area. Barnet had a half chance from another poorly defended corner and in injury time Martinez pulled off a decent low save.

Players:
Martinez: Not a great deal to do and nothing he could about the goal. Commanded his area though, especially on the long throws and was quick to get us back on the attack when he got the ball.
Doherty: Easy game for him really, unlucky not to score. Slotted in at left back for the last 10 mins
Hause: Confident performance, dealt with their typical L2 lump of a forward well
EEL: Probably the worst performer on the night, especially in the last 10-15 mins. Started to get nervy and lose his composure on the ball
Deslandes: Good debut. Hard to judge him of defensive work as he only really had to make one challenge. He bombs forward and has a decent burst of pace. He is close to being the genuine alternative to Golbourne
Ojo: Scored, missed 2 and booked for diving. Wanted him to be more direct but I guess he was instructed to move inside more to make room for Deslandes to come forward. His booking looked like a dive to me, but I was at the other end of the pitch. If it was a dive then he needs slapping
Saville: Tidy, always looking to go forward with his passes. Got injured though and he was shaking his head before the physio came on, so expect him to be out for a few weeks.
Price: Probably my MOTM. Busy, positive, put challenges in. he can't be far away from getting in the XI especially if McDonald is injured.
Wallace: Best way to describe him....Henrymax. Playing out wide, but moves into the centre looking for spaces. He will certainly be a step up in what we have in the positions he can play when he fully match fit.
Bright: He has that young player arrogance about him. Utter confidence in what he is doing. However, I think he may have been taken off as he was looking after himself rather than being a proper team player. ALF suffered a little I think as a few times he was in space and Bright wanted to be another man rather than make the pass. We iron out a few issues and we have a serious talent on our hands
ALF: Tireless running and I am gutted he didn't get the goal his performance deserved. Chased a lost of what looked like lost causes and got the ball to create chances for us.

Subs:
Henry: Very good for me. Moved around the pitch, looked for the ball and good link up play with ALF and the midfield
Rowe: He has a stupid hairstyle in a bun....but apart from that, tidy and composed in the middle. Still don't see him playing much this season though
Iorfa: Did what Dom does in his time on the pitch. Steady in defence and a threat going forward.

Overall a good night for us and only let down by poor finishing. A rare cup game that I enjoyed watching.

Good report, encouraging to hear Wallace played well, I have high hopes for him based on the videos I've seen of him at Pompey.

Boro away is definitely winnable, compared to previous 3rd round draws.

Cheers man.

Most encouraged by the verdict on Deslandes - I want us to have a proper option B at left back. No more playing Hause/Rowe there because it quite obviously limits us when we do.

Last win at Boro was 1950/51 haha. Since then our record up there has read

P22 W0 D8 L14

Always next year! ;)

Guess the man-bun hasn't caught on in the UK yet...

I thought we played some nice tidy football, but our finishing was pretty woeful. We could have quite easily been 6 or 7 up at half time had we taken, what were, fairly easy chances.

ALF's cut back for the first goal was excellent. I was expecting him to shoot from a very narrow angle, but had the foresight to cut it back, which created a very easy finish for Bright.

Held on a bit at the end, but overall a pretty good performance.

Middlesbrough away wont be easy, but it could have been worse. Win there and get a decent draw in the 4th round and who knows what msy happen.

Kenny, a great match report, many thanks.

for us cypro deluded foreign fuckers it's invaluable.

Just seen the highlights and you simply have to applaud their goal, maybe poor marking on the goal scorer from us but the backward flick from their assister was really clever.

It's not that special really Alan, I mean what else is he going to do from there? Head it away like a defender? A little flick on was his only option really.

The official highlights are beyond poor this year. No replays, commentary or chances.

There's lots more chances on Sky's highlights. Still no commentary though.

I don't like replays on highlights. Just wastes time that could be spent showing more action.

Some lovely through balls from Saville and Price there. Doherty unlucky not to score twice.

The hilarious thing is on Facebook they remind people that if you get WolvesPlayer you can have access to ten minutes worth of highlights, how many people will pay for the highlights when they're free,y available on the Sky website or TV.

First one was unlucky, not a lot room to get the lob in. 2nd one, he should have copied ALF and looked to get the ball back across the area.
