So, following on from Norman's "highest ceiling" thread, who is our most complete current player? Operating at or near their peak, highest ability, whichever way you want to read it.

I've gone for Joao because he's just a dream of a footballer. If I ever see a better one in a Wolves shirt then I'm doing well.

Moutinho. No contest. Best player I've ever seen play for Wolves. Majestic little man.

I think this could potentially be a landslide. I love watching him in midfield, the little maestro.

I've gone for Joao and it was a close run thing with Rui.

I'm going to buck the trend and say Jimenez. Deceptive speed, great touch and top finisher but I do love Joao too

I will add to my earlier comment that despite me saying 'no contest' Raul is unquestionably the best striker/forward I've seen play for us. Sorry Bully!

I refuse to go down this rabbit hole. No.

I would now take Rui and Boly over Murray and Lescott though.

I was going to post this comment on the 'ceiling' thread, but to me it seems that one of the key attributes Joao Moutinho must bring is the way he helps to develop other players, Clearly Neves is a prime example (paid £15.8m: worth £60m+) but the other players we're discussing - Jota, Traore, Neto - simply have to benefit from being in the same dressing room and training with him every week. When he finishes playing I absolutely hope we can keep him in some way.
But for most complete player I'll side with Darlo and say Jimenez, simply because we look significantly weaker without him. I do worry though that a 5 year £100k a week contract might lure him away in the summer.

He'll be 29 by the time the season finishes. I don't think anyone will pay what we'd ask on the basis that there's no further value left in him by the time his contract runs out (nor would he get a five year deal anywhere).

It's a while back now but Arsenal didn't end up getting that much money for RvP when they sold him. He was 29 then and as brilliant as Raul is, he was nowhere near that kind of level.

It's Moutinho, no doubt at all. Never dreamed I'd see such a good player in the old gold.

I get you, but I think you could quite easily argue that Jiminez is the most complete centre forward currently in the PL, and is one of the best in the world. No joke. He may not be the best outright striker, but his all round game surely makes him close to the best in the world right now.

Was speaking with a couple of Mexicans last week, they were very animated on discovering my affiliation. They immediately declared that Raul is not just a goalscorer, his greatest attribute is creating goals for his teammates.

Joao is the best player we have, Raul is the most important.

Interesting.

Your asking about someone at the top of their ability.
Yes Mout is, however Doherty is probably playing at the very peak of his powers, not only that but over and above anything I ever thought he could play.
Coady can improve, Mourinho and Doherty will not improve, neither will Jonny, or Boly, Rui is probably on his way down though he Is a superb player

So whilst Moutinho is 5'7" of football heaven, and at the very peak of his power.
He is the best player in have seen in a long time.

This is even tougher than the ceiling thread, love Moutinho and he is consistantly our best player but I'm going for Raul, he seems to have the lot, goals, assists, defending, work rate.

‘Bits’ being the operative word.

As did I. I'd back him over any keeper I've ever seen (even Schmeichel) for dominating the area.

But Rui is something else. You have to watch him (especially from behind the goal) to see how he makes the complex look simple. He doesn't make Hollywood saves because he doesn't have to. But when called upon he can. That offside one against Espanyol was just ludicrous.

Brilliant, brilliant keeper.
