The Definitive TWF Worst Wolves XI Thread

We were getting rid of Sami anyway. We let him go and play for Saudi because he had no future here whatsoever.

When Colin Lee is busy preferring Neil Emblen up front to you, the clues are there really.

Claridge - 0 goals, dreadful in the fa cup semi final and hates us.
Frankowski - 0 goals, epitome of Hoddle at Wolves.
Nouble - 0 goals, first touch and movement of an iceberg, only an iceberg can finish better.
Maierhofer - dreadful but at least he scored 1 goal.
Leon - the missed sitter at Sheff Utd away in league one summed him up. And we had him twice! He'd be higher up the list but his 16 goals in 103 (?!?!?!) games seemed to prolific compared to the others.

Frankowski, useless

Wayne Clarke why?

Leon Clarke, utterly fat and shit

Cyrille Regis, signed ten years too late

John paskin, shit

Mrs Doyle, just couldn't score enough goals team rounds like a headless chicken worked hard but no goals means he makes my list

You think Cyrille and Doyle are two of the 6 worst strikers we've ever had? :icon_lol:

Wasn't Doyle quite good his first year here?

Doyle was good his first couple of seasons with us

Excellent first season, I didn't think he was particularly good second season and then he was cack after that.

Odd though, people have been claiming exemptions for AWFUL players based on one goal or one game :icon_lol: Doyle gave us a whole season, we'd definitely have gone down without him.

It's only a personal opinion, based on a former big money signing, one good season dont make for a good career, season games n goals don't make pretty reading, only 3 in 25 games in the third division!!!

Doyle's decline was shocking to be fair, within four years he'd gone from Premier League hero to utter wank in League 1. There have been much, much worse than him 'leading' the line for us over the years though.

Mick bought Doyle, turned him into a different player and ran him into the ground. I thought he was excellent for the first season and decent for the first half of the second. His efforts over that period of time were great for the team but not for him personally. Then when we wanted the player we originally signed back after relegation he wasn't there any more.

Doyle played football like a dog.

In his first season Doyle played the lone striker role as well as anyone in the Premier league. He was awful after that but if he's in anyone's worst 6 then they've had a privileged time watching wolves.

Can't agree.

He was given a thankless task in the first season, essentially 10 men defending and Doyle left on his own to chase down anything that was thrown into the opponents half in search of a throw in or a corner or whatever he could muster. It was a monumental effort from him but it was never any sort of footballing masterclass, as the team behind him improved they just went on to show his limitations, he never once looked like forging any sort of understanding with anyone, never really linked up play or looked like he knew how to do his bit to help the team function, he just saw a ball and he chased it.

He typified the McCarthy way, effort over ability.
