So, pissed off to start with but really happy now...
I mentioned here that I was the Wing shooting officer last year but 5 months in, the Wing Commander who appointed me was suspended for vague reasons and a temp put in place. After a couple of months he was cleared but not put back in post and a month later the temp was made full time boss. He then decided that all Wing staff must reapply for their posts, me included. Anyway, long story short, I was unsuccessful and the new shooting officer?? The former Wing commander!
I went back to my old Sqn but made it clear I wasn't happy to just be Sqn staff and I wanted my own Squadron. I was asked to look after a nearby squadron, Richmond "for two to three months" in December last year and am still running it now. However, in the last month or so the OC at Northallerton has got a Wing position and has stood down. Last night I was interviewed for that post and found out that I'd been successful and will be the new officer commanding the squadron that I was a cadet, at many years ago!
I've offered to keep on top of the admin for Richmond until the return of their OC in the next month or so and will take command at Northallerton when I get back from taking a team of cadets to Bisley for the final Cadet target rifle shoot before the rifle is taken out of service.
A couple of busy weeks ahead but absolutely buzzing to be the new OC of the squadron I've always wanted to run
