Wolves 2-3 Everton - verdict thread.

At this point buying a strong midfield player with a bit of creativity appears hugely important now before the window closes - but can they ?

We’ve been run to exist as opposed being run with a genuine plan.
This leads to reactive decisions in desperation.
These decisions are often costly financially and create problems elsewhere at the club.
The hierarchy don’t surround themselves with enough football brains. Anyone with half a knowledge of football would be able to tell them that the side that’s here currently isn’t PL quality and by some distance

I swear Teti is some pseudo they’ve created to pin all the bad transfers on, probably nicked someone’s image of Facebook and pretend it’s him.

We are 100% sleep-walking to relegation. The only team I'm confident of finishing above is West Ham. The plan of finding 3 teams worse than us looks like it may fail this year.

The most obvious contenders are the promoted sides. Currently Burnley are 3 points clear of us (and should have taken a point today) Leeds, who have picked up 4 points at home, and Sunderland who have 2 wins on the board already. We certainly can't bank on the 3 promoted sides being below us. All 3 look like picking points up at home (from home games between them, they have 4 wins and 1 draw from 5 games) - we haven't looked looked like winning either of our home games so far.

Going to the other sides tipped to struggle this year, Everton and Bournemouth both now have 6 points on the board, and Brentford a home win against Villa also.

West Ham look dreadful, and in trouble. But I'm really struggling to find 3 sides we finish above - short of a mad amount of business between now and Monday.

Such an appalling performance as bad as some of the dross Under O'Neil.TBH I don't think Everton look anything more a bottom 6 team which is quite alarming for our outlook for the season.

The back 3 got bullied Beto all game fucking Beto not Haaland and so sloppy on the ball. The front 3 very pretty anonymous most of the game for all his efforts Munetsi offers nothing in a front 3. The only positives were Rodrigo and Lopez who looked head and shoulders the best player on the pitch when he came on.

Only 3 games in but relegation seems nailed on unless there is a dramatic upturn in performance and concentration.

Easy to overreact but our XI against City, Bournemouth and now Everton just isn't good enough to compete. Hopefully that will change, but I doubt it.

We scored two today but Hwang and Munetsi (absolutely brilliant for the first goal btw) were so bad. You can't win with players like that. I counted four times in the first half that Hwang's 'touch' or pass just went out of play or straight back to Everton.

Having Larsen in the team would make a massive difference, even to our defence, as the ball wouldn't keep coming straight back. Hwang and Munetsi simply don't get involved enough, they don't have the technical ability. The only time we looked good was when Sasa and Lopez were on.

Watching Lopez compared to Munetsi was startling. The body shape, how the receive the ball as a no.10, how to turn. He isn't PL ready but he is on another level to Munetsi who must only play against big teams when we are happy to have 30% possession.

The biggest signing we need to make is a forward player who can run and travel with the ball, forget Arokodare. If we had Grealish and Ndiaye, and they had Munetsi and Hwang, we'd have won. We need just one player who has a spark in the final third (it's not Arias).

He is good with the ball, have good eyes to made pases, but in the moment he tounch the ball Everton is full back defending.

That is because the start of wolves is.

Sa to defense, defense to defense, defense to cm, cm to another defense, and next pass up some good or bad pass... and in all that time Arias or Fer Lopez have the ball, but all defense of everton are full back.

That is because the ultra defensive mind of V. Pereira. He need understand now not have cunha, Ran, Semedo, fast player running. Need play more direct to up and fast, and dont get time rival turn to defense easy.

Fer Lopez its diferent if you view, all time he tounch the ball, he run up and try pass up fast.. dont made that 20 passes left or down.

What a shambles of a performance. In no particular order I’d observe the following.

Our back three have absolutely no composure on the ball and fail to mark players. How do we look more vulnerable in central areas at the back with three players there than other teams do with two? It’s as if they think someone else will do the job. Agbadou was woeful today and even in the last few minutes when quite incredibly we had the chance to snatch a draw he slowed things down by repeatedly making sloppy passes behind Toti. It was as if he’d had a three pints before the game.

Andre and Gomes sit too deep which combined with the WBs hugging the touchline leaves the front three completely isolated. As a result we rarely get the ball to them in a controlled manner and most of the balls into them are long balls hit more in hope than expectation. It paid off once with an excellent goal but that aside the front three that started did nothing of note. As soon as Andre and Arias went off and Bellegarde and Lopez came on we linked up play a little better. Andre was miles off his game today - the drop off from last season is almost as big as with Agbadou.

Unless VP sorts a way of playing as a unit of 10 outfield players rather than a back seven and front three we’re doomed. I know he won’t do it but I think the players we have would be far better suited to a back four - unless we recruit far better in the next two days than we have in over two years we might see it tried sooner than later under a new manager. Either way we’re in for a miserable 9 months. It’s quite staggering how things have unravelled since the six wins on the bounce.

Our entire defence does this, but Agbadou in particular. During the first half in particular, Tchatchoua had acres of space in front of him several times and every time either Agba or Toti played the ball to feet just behind him, forcing him to come inside, go backwards and lose any attacking impetus.

Worrying to say the least. This is the cornerstone of how VP wants to play, and for whatever reason, the players aren't responding. Everton quickly worked out what we were trying to do badly and nullified us by dropping the full-backs five yards deeper. If we are going to be that easy to cancel out, the absence of anyone who can hero-ball us points is going to make this a long hard season

Agbadou doesn’t look fit but he doesn’t look interested either. Quite similar to JSL in a way. I did wonder if he’s itching for a move too. Maybe window closing will help with him.

Tchatchoua - perhaps this is unfair so early on but yeah, he’s not a footballer. He’s rapid and almost turned some terrible passes into OK ones but I’m not having him. Hope I am wrong!

VP 10 wins since being here were 4 v Sides that are no longer in the league. 2 v sides whose priority was elsewhere and who were abysmal.
1 v 10 men
Other 3 were v Man Utd Boxing Day, Villa and West Ham.
Villa aside he generally struggled against sides of any quality.
Credit for keeping us up, however it wasn’t a masterclass.
Problem is this year the 3 promoted clubs look like they’ve got far more about them.
All of them have won a game or 2 and look like they’ve can grind stuff out to.
Leeds 2 home games have been terrible but they’ve picked up 4 points, 1 against a side that made us look terrible today.
This all said he’s working with the worst PL squad since promotion by a mile.

I hope you are but sadly I don’t think so. First impressions are often correct and Tchatchoua and Wolfe look a massive downgrade on RAN and Semedo which is going to disastrous given the role WBs play in VPs set up.

The only grounds for optimism are Hugo Bueno looked one of our best players yesterday, though the bar was lower than a snake’s belly. Even with him we all know that defensively he needs to improve significantly and there are few signs of that so far.
