Coffee

I have a delonghi ecam one at work, does the job just fine. Also makes a decent frothy coffee if that's yer fancy.

Anything Sage for me.

I got the Sage Barista Express in November in the Black Friday sale and it's been amazing.

Very similar functionality to the Sage model but a couple of hundred pounds less. Out of stock online, but they will have some in store when they reopen on the 12th

I grumble slightly about the more complex machines - I don't have milk and resent paying for frothers etc. If I'm honest I'm flipping fed up with cleaning, descaling etc. Might just get a stovetop pot until I get annoyed with those.

Does anyone make their own cold brew? Going to give it a go but seems like loads of contradictory measurements.

No. Wouldn't mind but just haven't got the patience.

Was just thinking of grinding some beans, chucking it in a cafetière and leaving it overnight.. too simple?

Should work. That would involve me buying a cafetière though.

Does anyone have a machine that makes a normal cup of coffee (not espresso) from beans/ground (not pods)?

Using a Clever Dripper at the moment. I've gone from never drinking coffee, to instant, to having a bloody grinder and scales.

We use a cheapo Melitta, not sure of the model.
Makes decent coffee although the 'jug' is a flask rather than being on a hot plate so if you leave it for more than a couple of hours, it needs warming in the microwave.
It's also a bit of a faff with its paper filters.

I have a DeLonghi bean to cup machine. It wasn't cheap, but it was without a doubt the best 'gadget' I've ever invested in. Worth every penny, beautiful cup of coffee every time. I've tried a few different beans, San Francisco Bay are pretty good, but I think the Lazazza Italian blend are my favourite.

The machine was from Costco, got it while it was on offer there for around £300 if I remember correctly. There are more high end ones that do more, but this does everything I need.

I had a DeLonghi for a few years and it was a great machine but recently binned that and gone back to a simple cafetière.

Go to Coffee for that is the Guatemalan Elephant from Whittards. Also a big fan of their coffee bags, means I get decent drinks when travelling down to the office on a Wednesday

Second Delonghi bean to cup, but would recommend Illy beans.

I should have mentioned single cup. Will look into those mentioned, cheers.

When I've been looking they mostly make a jug of coffee and it seems it's not recommended to use those for a single cup. Or they are espresso machines. I just kinda want to add beans/ground, press a button and get a nice normal cup of coffee so I guess a filter machine that makes one cup?

The rabbit hole started when someone made me a cup with a coffee bag. Then a few days later someone made me a cup with a french press which was even better. Probably should have got a french press but the clever dripper sounded good

The Delonghi one will make a single cup. One I had you set stuff such as cup size, coffee strength etc. The beans were just in the top anyway, fill the tank up with water. Pop the cup under, hit a button and your one cup of coffee is done.
Extra bonus, you can have straight coffee or go for a latte, flat white, capp, espresso, etc

They are not cheap, as mentioned, but if you look around you will get a decent deal. Especially if they have put another one out in the market, the older ones will drop in price

Well, I ended up with... a Nespresso machine :ROFLMAO:

The coffees are pretty nice tbf. I'm no connoisseur but they taste better than Tassimo/Dolce Gusto that I've tried recently

Been reading this thread with interest. Knowing I like a coffee the wife bought me one of these Bialetti jobs for Christmas:

It’s a lovely piece of engineering and that little bit of time set aside each day to enjoy it always a pleasure, but I’ve no refined coffee palate at all - I just really enjoy some ’stuff’ and dislike others, without understanding what it is I’m enjoying or missing. I suppose it’s just trial and error and paying attention, but any suggestions on what to use or how to get the most from that device would be appreciate.

I like coffee from freshly ground beans, if you have a ninja type blender (as a starter) might be worth giving it a go.

The number one thing you can do to improve your at-home coffee is buy freshly roasted beans and grind them per serving.

You'll never go back to pre-ground or *shudder* instant coffee.
