Euro 2020

Nah, if he had an arm around him he would have been the best. Fergie would have looked after him.
Lee Sharpe got to the point he was living in Fergies house but he would still sneak out, he gave up on him eventually.

Gazzas issues were/are more than what Fergie could fix, he's got mental health issues and whilst Fergie was great at focusing players and bringing them on, I think Gazzas issues go beyond what a bit of mentoring could achieve.

It's strange, you look at Gazzas behaviour now and you can clearly see someone unbalanced, back in the 90s it was just Gazza and we all laughed about it.

Southgate is cautious. He is happy , it appears , for England to beat a team like Brazil one -nil one week and Luxembourg 1-0 the next. He will point to the two wins no goals conceded and justify his decisions. That is very similar to Nuno in my view. The issue is that we have an abundance of attacking talent and they are available to a cautious manager, which frustrates fans . Southgate safe ball is fine if England win. If he plays safe and bores us v Germany and we win 1-0 no one will care. If we lose there will be an outcry. Ideally we will win 4-0 and play the game of the tournament. Its unlikely though.

Also people are judging that thesis based on the 2013 Fergie rather then the 1988 one.

1988 Fergie was under tremendous pressure himself and still had to establish himself as he hadnt won anything and United had shown no real improvement.
He ditched McGrath and Whiteside at the end of that season because he couldn't handle them (as well as injury prone)
Fergie who finished was a far different man to the one back in 88. He didnt believe in the arm round the shoulder approach back then. He admitted that he would have handled McGrath far differently 15 years later.

Gazza unfortunately would have imploded wherever he went, maybe sooner as United he would have been playing under far more pressure then Spurs and with a dictorial manager.

Try picking a winner now !

Spain win 5 - 0 , even allowing for the fact that Slovakia were rubbish , that's still impressive . Could it unleash them ?

France - still look like a team with great potential , but just can't find the start button .

Germany - hard to know . Got a very late draw last night , coming from behind twice . Conceded 5 times in the group - strong group mind you .

England - it's like as if they have this master plan to lull everyone into thinking they have nothing to offer by deliberately being cautious and conservative in the Group , and then turn it on in the knock out stages . Just can't see it, but the draw is kind to them .

Belgium - very composed to date , won all their matches by scoring more than one goal each time . Not really tested yet , but most big teams haven't been .

Italy - have they hit their ceiling ? Can they continue to work really hard and fast during every match . Austria in the last 16 - that's very winnable .

Dutch - will take stopping too , quite physical , relying on Depay up front is a negative though . Need a striker of note to progress deep into the tournament .

Southgate is the best psychologist of the lot of them. They actually enjoy playing for England now which is half the battle. I've only seen that spirit in 90 and 96 and then only briefly. He's created a bond with the fans which is impressive given where things were after Iceland.
Absolutely, and this can't be underestimated.

The 3rd place farce Portugal in the last 2 Euros have come 3rd and qualifying wining 1 game in that process.

It doesn't really matter. If they want 24 teams they need to guarantee three games per team so its four teams a group. Ideally with 24 teams you would have 8 groups of three, top 2 qualifying for knockouts, giving you the desired last 16.

Kind of point 24 tournaments don’t work

Not happy with this no football day. Hated watching the Prem Season but enjoying the Euros. I say make teams who have been knocked out play each other to entertain us on "rest days"
just posted a similar sentiment on the annoy thread!

They should run a "My God Your Are Shit" Euros to fill the gaps. A mini tournament where we can watch San Marino battle Gibralter and the likes. It would cheer them up when one of them wins the "We are not really patronising you" Trophy

Hope he has threatened to do another one if they lose v Germany...

Having watched some of the bottom group Nations League games, I do not endorse this idea.

Just a filler. Not to be taken seriously of course. Light entertainment and funnier than Mrs Browns Boys
