The Transfer Thread 2022/23- Everything not Wolves

I can see the sense behind the Wood signing. They are currently without a fit striker - he’s a proven PL goal scorer and suits the way they play. £20m is a drop in the ocean for them, and in all honesty, he’s one of a small number of proven forwards that won’t kick off if/when they get relegated. I think it’s a reasonable bit of business for both Burnley and Newcastle tbf.

One positive that’s come out of this is its handed a healthy dose of reality to the toon fans. Two months ago my pal who’s a Newcastle fan thought they’d just go out and wave a bag of money at whoever they wanted and they’d all happily sign a contract. Now they’re signing Chris Wood from Burnley.

IF they go down, they’ll piss the Championship, though, and it’s when they come back up that they’ll be a different animal.

30s not that old for a player of his style and only just turned 30. No issue giving him a 4 year deal.

He’s scored double digit goals 4 seasons in a row and also offers more than just goals. Don’t tend to get them for under £30m.

No idea how he’s been this season tbh though.

How delicious would it be if they don't come straight back up, though?

No way it's good business for Burnley.

I get why Newcastle are doing it. Like you say it’s a drop in the ocean to then but it’s still a lot of money for a player past his peak. They could have got better value elsewhere imo

Burnley sound furious. But they allowed the release clause so not got anyone to blame but themselves!

For 30m Burnley could upgrade quite easily if they do proper due diligence. Tho I suppose in their part of the table money isn't always a guarantee.

I'm not sure about the whole past his peak thing, he's 30, he's not a lot older than Raul! I think he's a limited player who can score and be a nuisance, but there is no way on earth he's a £30m player. He is what he is: a bottom 3rd PL player to a top 3rd Championship player. No club in the top half of the PL would show the slightest bit of interest in him. And this season he has been pretty poor. Against us he was dreadful.

He’s been crap so far this season, are his 5-6 goals going to be enough? Hope not.

I get it from Burnley’s view though as they look like they’re heading down anyways

Everton actually have gone and signed El Ghazi (albeit only on loan). Baffling. They already have loads of wide players (all their top performers from this season as well) and he's barely a Championship player.

Benitez seems to be playing them as I would play Albion on Football Manager.

El Ghazi is not only awful, he’s also the most greedy selfish player I’ve seen with no ability to back it up! If they’re expecting him to feed DCL I think they might be in for a surprise.
