Wolves 0-2 Brighton Where's Dave gone? Verdict

Dave is a passenger now - playing with 10 from the start really won't cut it at this level

Not sure anyone comes out of that with that much credit - Brighton just that much better & it showed - real problem is that our defence had at least 1 or 2 ricketts in them , theirs didn't
& in Knockeart thy have a player who can unlock the opposition

Without Costa we don't

you see Brighton - proper right back and left back, not makeshift rubbish !
same old attacking threat - nil.
hearing that Costa is off to Monaco for 30 million

PISSED OFF NOW

Boys against Men.

At least Wilson got 13 minutes in which we could learn nothing.

I really fear we're going to be fed a line that with key additions Doherty, Batth and Edwards will reveal they're world beaters and their 14th and 15th placed finishes are a misrepresentation.

Saiss played a few decent balls and a few stray ones but always tried to make himself available and Cav tried to make things happen. The rest of them can have no complaints whatsoever if they're dropped for Leeds.

In a weird way, I feel quite good about this. The shit players were shit and we were outclassed. No hiding or covering up what's needed

Dont think theres much between us and them, with Costa, Ikeme and Willo in we would be very competitive versus them. Having said that we should be looking to much better than that, absolute minimum in the summer is striker, 2 fullbacks and quality CB/organiser, a decent CM would be nice too

Bit rubbish. Brighton don’t seem any great shakes, but I guess they keep winning anyway, which is the mark of champions.

Dropping Evans was harsh after one poor game following many good ones, and tbh I thought Saiss didn't make his case very well. Admittedly he was covering for Dave a fair bit defensively, which he did ok, but his passing reminded me of O'Hara. Every time he looked for the 50 yard special, most of which were misplaced. Sat way too deep again. This was made more obvious when we went 4-4-2 as we effectively stopped having a central midfield. He was too deep, Edwards too high and there was literally no one in the centre of the pitch. Seems to have a tendency to shoot whenever he’s within about 30 yards of goal, never with any accuracy. Unpopular opinion but there we go.
Also Weimann is ineffective out wide. Up top or not at all I think.
Bod was too quiet. When he starts these days, he just doesn’t seem to put himself about as much as he did at the start of the season.Still not a bad option off the bench for now.

I’ve singled out those three but tbh there weren’t many good performances out there. Far too many sloppy passes all over the pitch to ever get much fluency going.

And a goalkeeper who isn't average or below average shite

Proper verdict later but the club must know that we're carrying so, so much shite. Unsustainable to send out teams like we do and expect better than lower mid table. One consistent factor in the last two seasons of drudge and it's these half paced, no talent losers.

Playing Edwards leaves the other central midfielder trying to be 2 players & Saiss isn't Kante and can't do that - if he could he would be in a top Premier league team already.

He's had his scoring run - isn't going to do it again this season & playing him hampers us so much

If you picked a combined Brighton / Wolves team on that showing then all 11 players would be from Brighton
Why is Batth so weak? How does Murray just brush past him to set up the second? Reminded me of Will Grigg scoring for Wigan
And how bloody useless are our full backs? If you rate Bruno as a 10 then our are 3 - maybe 4 on a good day

Just got back and I'm fuming with that display, sheer lack of quality throughout the side.
The first goal is just a joke, Hause completely misjudged the ball and really it should be a routine save for Lonergan who pushes it into the net.
Can't believe how wasteful we were in possession and the amount of hoofed aimless balls.
If anything it's just highlighting how much works neede to be done in the summer.

Cav and saiss were pretty good today, lonergan was awful, Edwards and weimann were absolutely non existent, and the rest were just poor.

Deserved result. Theres no point playing weimann as a winger, he's a striker. If we're not going to play him there then We should let him go back to derby.

I just hope lambert is learning from this, but I'd bet edwards and weimann will start the next game in the same positions...

I thought Saiss was carrying Edwards at times but I still thought he was really wasteful in possession and it was his hospital ball that led to Brighton hitting the bar in the 14 minute.

Not sure that I would blame Saiss entirely (though he wasn't especially outperforming anyone else) - he was trying to be 2 players as Edwards was non existent (really not the game for his few attributes)

Another kick in the teeth. My issue is primarily with the fact that we have no recognised plan or tactics for the opposition beyond pressing them high up the pitch. It always felt like we were far too narrow and with the Brighton wingers willing to work hard and track back - meaning that our full backs wouldn't operate as effectively as you'd imagine they would with a narrow forward line (assuming they were competent....). Going forward, our chances were sparse and we only had a meaningful outlet at set pieces - which Stockdale dealt with easily (just imagine if we had such a keeper...). Meanwhile Coady missed a sitter at 1-0 and the rest of our on target efforts went straight at the keeper. Both goals came about from horrendous defending and I really cannot stand Lonergan who seemed to be a hologram effectively for the entire match.

Lonergan - 1/10 - Minus a few kicks, everything seemed to go past or through him. Should have done better with the goals and looked so dodgy with shots to his near post (he was well beaten even with the effort that hit the side netting). We badly need Ikeme, then in the summer I'd like to see a new no.1 with Ikeme as backup.

Coady - 4/10 - Wasn't as bad as some would have you believe but should have scored. Had a howler in the second half but it was one of those games where if he's up against an above average winger then he will get shown for what he is; a CM who is playing at RB. Hopefully Iorfa or Silvio may get a chance otherwise we badly need a RB in the summer.
Batth - 5/10 - Not the worst defender today but still quite poor. Went over quite easily for the second goal but other than that he seemed reasonably steady. A traditional Batth game with lots of hoofs and throwing his body about etc etc etc.
Hause - 4/10 - Really quite bad today, for some reason he let the ball bounce a few times and his distribution was quite messy. Remains our best CB at Wolves in my eyes but clearly needs some work.
Doherty - 2/10 - I thought he was the worst player on the pitch today, rarely won his defensive duels, put many regulation passes astray and couldn't get forward effectively at all (don't think he did a single cross all game?). He never seems up for 50/50 challenges and every time Brighton broke on the counter in the second half he was the last defender back (and often behind Saiss and Edwards). Seriously needs dropping but this is unlikely due to the lack of a viable alternative so an LB is a huge priority in the summer.

Edwards - 3/10 - Some nice tackles and good pressure applied but delivered a classic Edwards:no goals performance. Needs dropping in an ideal world but this is as unlikely as ever.
Saiss - 5/10 - Wasn't as bad as some suggest. He was clearly up for it and worked hard all game. The main problem is that it is now mid-April and his ability is still a mystery as my mate put it. He wasn't as bad as Rotherham but when he's played next to Edwards we end up in a similar scenario of him having to look for long passes as he has no short ball options to move the ball across the pitch (hence all these 50 yard/hollywood/o'hara comparisons I've seen on twitter) and still has a clanger in him as we saw in the first half.

Weimann - 2/10 - Striker or bench. Appalling game and it really showed his limitations. Don't think he beat a man or delivered a cross and never seemed to provide any width.
Cavaleiro - 4/10 - Worked hard but suffered from the general lacklustre play from his teammates. Had to gamble and take risks as nobody else seemed willing to and it didn't really come off.
Marshall - 3/10 - Another poor game. Didn't look effective at all on the left and really struggled to get the ball moving. He has good technique and had a good effort saved but he won't be a star player. His set pieces were dealt with comfortably (more of a compliment to Stockdale's aerial superiority) and he clearly hasn't gelled with Doherty yet.

Bodvarsson - 2/10 - Clearly tries hard but I thought he was so poor. I suppose a positive was that he stuck around in the box a bit more this game and looked a bit sharper. He never looked like scoring however and he didn't hold up the ball well enough to justify staying on as long as he did.

Dicko and Wilson didn't add a lot so can't say much - the game was lost by the time they came on as it was far too late for them to inject any positivity into the side (even though we were just 1-0 down)

So we get to safety and players down tools?? Do we blame the players or the management for allowing them to???

Not blaming him just don't think he had a great game.
