The figures on their website don't correlate with his soundbite.

I'm presuming the figures on their website are deemed to be their most accurate.

It's the same levels of panic for when snowflake falls in Inverness.

Weather forecasting isn't concrete. But you were saying the media was blowing this out of proportion. When the Met Office have issued a red extreme weather warning for the first time ever, that very obviously isn't the case is it...

There are many design considerations that vary to suit climate, orientation of properties, sizing and positioning of windows, building services. Obviously we have a fairly different climate to Mediterranean countries and end up with generally different housing as a result.

There's loads of differences though between being hot here and going on holiday somewhere hot. Activity, attire, acclimatization.

Someone would have to be pretty simple minded to suggest it's fine to have these temperatures just because they are commonplace elsewhere.

A few weeks ago our outside a.c. unit broke down.
A fuse blew at a cost of $145. Took 2 days for the a.c. folk to come out and fix it. Inside temperature at the house got to 89°f

So would I. And they say a slightly higher chance than I get from my sources. I am always a little cautious about weather extremes, as anyone following my posts on this thread will know.

However, when the red alert is issued the likelihood is very high, and the issue is more about the level of the weather event. I think there is a high probability (in extreme weather terms) of the 38.7 c record going. I am less confident we will see 40 degrees.

And of course there is no guarantee that we will specifically see the very highest temperatures, even in the middle of the red zone.

I am very confident it will feel infernally hot though.

Quite a discussion since I last logged on. I'm happiest around 23 degrees myself, but my point was really why can't the weather forecaster simply say for those who lack common sense "It'll be hot for a few days, don't forget to wear a hat/sun cream if you're out and stay hydrated" rather than having "We're all gonnae die!!!!!" screaming from every front page and news channel. I'm sure my mum used to pull up the hood of my pram if the sun came out when I was a baby, but since then I've been fine, thanks.

netweather has 36-38+.

Depends entirely on the model used. Consensus is 10% chance of breaking 40 degrees.

The hottest day we have ever had was when we played Crusaders. That hit 38.7 in Cambridge.

That was a pretty brutal day and can recall being out for a couple of hours mid-afternoon. That peak though came in the middle of a warm spell that just went on and on and on. By the time it hit that height it didn’t really feel any different to anything 30+ or thereabout. Most people were already flagging and long since made adjustments where they could, and those that loved it were still out in the parks lapping it up.

Seem to recall though a couple of floor fans just about keeping it bearable and will dig those out of the loft. I don’t mind a bit of heat but dripping with sweat when you are stood still doing nothing, having a shower to cool down and sweating again before you’ve even dried off ain’t no fun at all. Looks like we’re heading that way again next week and good luck to anyone having to work in that.
