Agreed.

I'm amazed at the hand-wringing about this, the calls for him to be sacked etc.

The idea of sacking Southgate 2 games before a World Cup starts is lunacy, lets assume they appoint Howe (scomit) or Potter to replace him, how are they supposed to get their methods of play across in just 2 get togethers? That aside from how this could effect the team spirit and confidence of a squad that clearly have a lot of respect and time for Southgate (despite not really showing it last night).

That's not to say that losing 4-0 to Hungary isn't shit, it is, but sacking Southgate over it would be akin to sacking Klopp after Villa gubbed Liverpool 7-2.
 
Southgate has credit in the bank to not be under any scrutiny until after the World Cup.
He’s probably learnt a lot about the character of certain players of whom some will be in serious jeopardy of not going to the World Cup.
Also with his strongest 11 expect to see, Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson back in to add some natural leadership. Certain players aren’t as good as the media tell them they’re Stones, Saka, Bowen, Mount etc
With the World Cup I don’t see England getting beyond the QF which bizarrely would represent a poor showing compared to previous tournaments.
 
Wales will beat us I can see it. Goal from a set piece and then park the bus.
 
We'll beat Iran and the US, Southgate has a good record of taking care of the also rans in competitive games. Wales depends on what team we play / what they need
 
Yet all nations play mix and match teams, making it not competitive in the true sense

Y'all didn't beat us in 2010 and our squad now is much better than it was then.
