The R.I.P. Thread

I've got Michael Brandon (Dempsey) speaking at my club this July...

I watched a D&M a few weeks ago too, the one with Nick Brimble playing villain Lymon
His first or second appearance? They give him a truly ridiculous signature theme in his 2nd episode.

I loved the Sweeney and the Professionals when I were a bab.

Same. Probably just preferred the Professionals because at that age it was an easier watch and handbrake turns, bedding birds and shooting baddies seemed like such a cool thing to do.

There was a blinding spoof made by some of the comic strip team called The Bullshitters: Roll Out the Gunbarrel that still raises a good chuckle now if you’re into that sort of thing. A young Keith Allen, Peter Richardson, Robbie Coltrane amongst others.

Can't remember that he was in 2 but must be the 2nd as there was a cheesy riff every time he appeared on screen!

Remember at the time thinking he was cool as fuck - 6'4", rat tails, cool driving skills and a cheesy riff every time he appeared!

“When do we get the fast cars and walkie talkies?”
“Heres a bus pass and a bag of 10p’s for the phone”

It was a spot on piss take, and I think done with a bit of love towards the series, all the camera angles and such were spot on.

Elvis Costello was in it as well as a talent spotter in the pub, just before bonehead gets up and sings fly me to the moon.

detectives on the verge of a breakdown by the comic strip was good as well, took the piss out the sweeney and spender

Wigan played Bath in two games when they were both the dominant forces in their Codes, and that was the start of it really. Wigan won the league match by a street, and Bath did the same in Union.

I seem to recall the union game was alot closer than the reverse fixture they won a 7s tournament too if Im not mistaken. I don't really recall that bringing together the codes, just some exhibition stuff at the beginning of Union turning pro. Would be a different kettle of fish these days, Union has moved way past league.

Just been speaking to my dad, his parents knew him as a failed bookie. Funny how things work out for some people.
