Wolves 0-3 Brighton: Verdict Thread

Again, you can set up the team tactically as much as you want, but you rely on the players to put it into practice. How can you be blamed for that group of players not even trying. Liverpool tactically are really good, but their results rely on the players showing desire to win the ball and make runs to get into goalscoring positions first. We just fuck about with it till we lose it, then don't chase after the ball to win it back.

When was it we were reported to be sniffing around a different manager? Was it Feb / march time?

Its literally his job to make sure it doesn't happen.

Why it happened is another matter. Maybe he has lost the dressing room, maybe the players think they know better, maybe they all have the memories of goldfish and forget anything he told them 2 minutes earlier.

Whatever the reason, he is responsible for the performance. The fact it was basically all the players not turning up suggests that things are fractured beyond repair.

Wow just got back and that was just so bad.
Sitting in the north bank dead centre gave a good view second half just how bad we’re.
Completely disorganised and huge gaps all over the park. Saiss and Boly strolled around like it was pre season.
Every second ball was picked up by a Brighton player.
All 3 goals were the cause of poor timing, poor decisions and half arsed players.
Hwang again at the very least you expect a pro footballer to be able to control a ball twice his touch lost possession one when he had a good chance to square the ball and second when he got booked. Big shout out to those putting the crosses in just abysmal if it didn’t beat the first man it went into Sanchez hands with zero pressure.
Second half today especially tells me Lage is completely ineffective as coach. Stats don’t lie 15th blank and 14/15 games we’ve lost when going behind.
If you’re going to be pragmatic then at least be organised.
League position suggests we’ve moved forward if this manager is in charge next season we’ll be in big trouble early doors.
He got very lucky in early parts the Villa and Leeds games should have done for him two dreadful displays that should have both been bad defeats somehow he got 4 points and has been meandering ever since.

Apart from pointing a gun at them i can't see that he can affect how they perform on the pitch. They are not a performing elephant, they are human. You have to have the desire to win inside you. All the skills in the world don't make a shit of difference if the desire isn't there. Again the Liverpool example is the one. Those players he has are very talented, but it's not just talent that make them as good as they are.

If Fosun are unwilling to invest in new and better players, it's unlikely they'll be looking to change the 'yes man' current manager.
I can see next season with a couple of players missing being a relegation threatened season, and it will be a case of 'are there 3 worse teams than us'.
So sad to see after Nuno's exploits over the first 2 seasons back in the premier.

The players are responsible for their performances / efforts, Lage is accountable as their manager.

Again, motivating them to perform is his job, as it is Klopp's. If he can see they have no fight or bottle then he shouldn't be picking them.

These players have shown plenty of fight and desire in previous seasons, but they aren't now. The stat about points won from behind speaks volumes.

Agree he shouldn't be picking them. Unfortunately the choice he has to pick from is very limited. Apart from chucking in the whole U-23's (which might be a good idea right now) he has what he has.

Accountable is different from being at fault. Something has happened since the second half of the Leeds game. I have no idea what, but i guess we will find out. Bruno isn't holding back in his interviews right now. Maybe he'll spill the beans!

Good grief that was bad.

I dared to hope we might have a midfield three when the teams were announced but deep down I just knew Dendoncker would be taking up positions as an inside forward.

Somedo took a shot in the first half I think almost explicitly because Dendoncker wasn't offering anything in front of him and there was nothing else on.

In the first half we played a 532 out of possession and 343 in possession so the same old issues were present, the horseshoe of doom, the forwards being fucking miles from one another, and completely abandoning the centre midfield. More than once Neves picked up possession in Saiss' position. What in fucks name is he going to do from there? not withstanding I don't think he was even vaguely fit.

Today was as close to downing tools as I think you can get. I can take being beaten, I can take being outclassed but today we were outfought, outrun, the lot beaten on every fundamental level.

What's more, Brighton opened the day in the bottom three for goals scored this season and they've knocked three past us with the opportunities for double that besides.

Only special mention I have is 92nd minute 35 year old Joao Moutinho running with the ball into the Brighton half looking to make something happen with more enthusiasm and energy than most of the wankers he shared a huddle with combined over the previous 91. I adore this bloke but I sincerely hope he and particularly Ruben tell Bruno, Shi, Sellers and anybody else to get fucked and go in the summer.

I'm now firmly Lage out. I wouldn't give him the steam off my piss much less a transfer budget.

March I think. Bruno Genasio of Rennes

Shockingly bad, embarrassing and humiliating today. When the 3rd went in the aisles of the Steve Bull were blocked as so many were leaving. We stayed to the bitter end but we all remained seated at full time.

I've turned with Lage today. This is woeful and I see no benefits to having parted with the much loved Nuno a year ago for what looks like no improvement. These players are not playing for him.

I do wonder if there is some truth in the rumour from the other week about the French Bruno replacing him, so random, a bit like the first Lage rumours.

Itd not just Bruno though, we are seeing the result of several poor windows coming home to roost

Absolute shite, Bruno to blame, he’s full of shit.
Welcome back Trev!
However we are 8th, that's better than anyone on the forum thought and when he gets his own players and can play his own style we'll be great

You sound like Dave Jones, who is a footballing dinosaur.

The problem is deeper than Lage - changing just him won't make it go away - but he's absolutely underperforming. One can argue about the merit of results, and runs of luck that go against all statistical indicators. But managing individual and collective performance level is literally the manager's job. If you do that, then in the fullness of time the results will reflect it. If you don't, then you rely on luck. Footballers are literally assets, in a productivity sense, not just a financial sense. Most of those assets aren't good enough, and they're also all being further mismanaged.

Its definitely the managers job to make sure the players are up for it. I would say some personal pride should come into it. If you can’t get up for a chance to play in Europe, which for the majority of our squad will be the pinnacle for what they can achieve (unless they play in a lesser league), then I’m not sure what they’d get up for
