On the face of it, it looks like Derby & Boro have done some good business so far in this window, although as has been pointed out in the transfer thread, I'm not sure how Derby are going to fit all those players in.

Rotherham are continuing their cheap and cheerful scattergun transfer policy from last season, Wednesday have new owners and seem to be spending much more, Forest are hamstrung by their transfer embargo and Leeds have made a few quality additions.

None of the promoted clubs have done much business at all so far. Of the relegated clubs, Burnley have made two decent signings but have also lost a few key players and QPR have made one or two impressive transfers but I haven't a clue what Hull are doing.

It makes you thankful that, despite the majority of our fans wanting "more signings! more signings!", the ones we HAVE got through the door appear, at least on paper, to be stronger than the majority of players bought in by other clubs.

That's the feeling I get reading through that list as well. The fans of teams like Brighton, Ipswich and Fulham seem to be pretty happy with their transfer dealings so far but I'm not massively impressed tbh.

Boro & Derby are the two obvious ones yeah. Boro rumoured to be in for Jordan Rhodes as well so they're definitely one to look out for.

He is a good player and I suppose most of that fee will be depending on promotion, etc but I know what you mean. I wouldn't be comfortable with Wolves spending that sort of money while we were still in the Championship.

They needed to replace Vossen & Bamford though and if they get Rhodes they'll definitely have done that.

I would say we've got the best forward partnership in the division, and one of the best back fives (inc. Ikeme). If we can sort out McDonald, him and Coady may be one of the best midfield pairings too. I'm only worried about the supporting attacking players (whether they be wide players or narrow attacking midfielders)

Then they're into the Dave Jones realms of signing players way above their value to get promoted, then none of them are fit for purpose once you get there, so you need even more money.

Even if they do want to throw around silly money then there is better value out there, is Jordan Rhodes seven times better than Afobe?

I'm not saying he's worth Afobe x7 (or Dicko x46 for that matter), just that he's guaranteed 20+ goals a season in an average Blackburn side, in a quality Boro side he could provide the type of return that can fire a team towards automatic promotion.

It's also way too early to say that he'd be 'unfit for purpose' in the Premier League. You couldn't build a side around him but he'd still be a decent option to have and would still score goals.

He's only twenty five but I just don't think there is much more to his game. If he was playing in a Premier League side that created chances I could see his worth, he'd do well for an Everton/Spurs possibly, but if Boro went up Karanka, being the Mourinho disciple he is, isn't going to go and play free flowing football.
