The things that I really, really like thread...

I found the BSA air rifle the old man bought me when I was about 14 while I was clearing his house out, I became a pretty good shot with it.
Had a go at trying to hit a tin can that i placed on the garden bench at the bottom of the garden, never got anywhere fucking near it.

Had a BSA Meteor as a kid

Not sure where to put this but anyway…

In Marrakesh for a few days and just been talking football to some Scottish guy called Mike and his missus who just arrived at the hotel this evening.

He’s Arbroath and they got relegated yesterday after getting gubbed 5-0 by Ayr United. Miles adrift at the bottom and a goal difference of minus loads and loads.

Was trying to find something positive to say so mumbled something along the lines of, “Well fair play to you for turning up every week, must’ve been pretty miserable at times but you did it”

To which he replied, “Yeah it was, but I am the chairman”.

In the winter I’m always wearing my Wolves hat and regularly get stopped by someone who notices it and fancies a blether. Often not necessarily a football fan themselves but they might have family from Wolverhampton or have a family member who goes to matches and just like to make the connection.

Funnily enough the baker behind the counter in the supermarket spotted it last year and was telling me his son goes to matches home and away and is a member of London Wolves, his handle being ‘Epsom Wolf’ apparently! I did have a very quick chat with a younger guy in a Wolves shirt at the station sometime before that but he said he didn’t get to matches so it wasn’t him, but still, nice to know there are a few of us about anyway.

Loved scalextric as a kid. Had a figure of 8 track and added more track to make different designs. TR7 cars along with the racing cars and would happily race or watch them go round for hours. It was shared with my brother and a few years later it got took round to a mate of his and never came back. 🙁

I had a Scalextric but being an only child I had to race myself. And I still lost.

Saw Derren Browns latest show at the grand last night.
Superb as always. He never disappoints.
Still trying to figure out how he does most of the show. Stunning.

Something that’s been covered in the ‘annoy’ thread but the proposed amendment to the Bus Services Bill sneaking under the radar could be manna from heaven.

Not entirely sure if the “playing sound out loud” includes phone calls on speaker as the French guy was fined for, or just the music and videos etc. Personally I hope absolutely anything coming out of a phone speaker is included but either way it looks like there might finally be some progress:

Randomly, dug out my driving licence in case ID was needed recently to collect an online order. It wasn't, however when putting the licence away I realised it expired 8 months prior! I'd had no reminder letter or anything. Whilst I appreciate it is my responsibility, I don't think many people know/remember 10 year renewal dates.

Tried to renew online, and cos it had expired, you can't. This co-incided with a weekend away already booked, and I decided fuck it, not been stopped in 8 months, going to chance it.

Fortunately, got away with it. Went to the local post office last tuesday. paid for the staff there to renew the licence for me. Took maybe 10 mins? I was queueing up longer than the process took. All good.

New licence arrived this morning. Less than a week. That's fab really.

Funnily enough I received my reminder through the post a couple of weeks ago, telling me it’s due to expire 18/06.
Have tried renewing online but there’s a glitch as the text code required never comes through so the process is over before it’s even started.

Good to hear the post office process is straightforward and thanks for the reminder, I’ll head up there tomorrow.

I renewed mine online without a hitch. I also received a reminder.

Went to see Dear England at the National Theatre last night.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Captured the Southgate-era story perfectly. All of the expected on-field emotional rollercoasters, and dealt with the sensitive issues around racism, misogyny and mental health with class too. Very funny in parts, the caricatures of the people we think we know were bordering on cruel but highly amusing nonetheless.

All done with a very simple set and limited props, and was very impressed with the interpretation of the story. Would’ve been easy to have gone the dumbed-down musical route but it is a play first and foremost, with the banging ‘Sweet Caroline’ perfectly timed at the end.

Last week at the NT before it goes out on tour. It’s not Shakespeare but all the better for it tbh, would definitely recommend taking a look.

Had a really good positive experience today.
I've got an old Vox guitar to sell which came from an old friends house clearout.
Went to Newtown to Mid Wales Music, bit of a trek but so worth it.
Couple of other mates came with me who also had old guitars to sell. None of them worth very much although the 60s Wilson bass caused a bit of interest amongst the staff. They didn't want to buy any of them but have taken them to advertise/show them for a commission.
We were there for over an hour while the guys checked them over, researched them and generally had a chat about guitars.
As my mate pulled his old Arbiter acoustic out of the bag he said "doubt you'll be interested in this" the guy replied, "mate, I'm interested whatever it is. While that was probably the least valuable of the 3, they spent just as much time looking at it.
Proper old school customer service.
