Meh. It's a couple of stations away on the train and I'll definitely go, but it'll be like that episode of South Park where the kids play little league baseball and neither team actually wants to win their match for fear of having to play more little league baseball. The powers that be have scrapped the New Year's Day fixture in a vain attempt to make clubs care about the cup. All I'll say is, play the kids. If they win that's great, they have another game to look forward to. If not, it's no big loss; they've played in front of paying supporters at a lovely old ground.

Don't care, we don't have a strong enough squad to be competing on two fronts. We have a number of key players and if any of them are missing at any given point we will struggle. As such this comes a very distant second in the priority stakes.

play-offs is main aim this season but i think FA Cup run could actually help us in our main goal this time

1. getting into 4th round will mean postponing some league games for when we have Sakho back
2. testing some of the bench strength in a competitive non-league match

i would concur with some of the suggestions above i.e. keep defensive unit together but give likes of Evans / Bancessi / Saville / Jacobs / Henry a run out

We should go full out to win this game and go as far as we can, the cup IS important and a good run will be good for moral/confidence, not entirely sure I want us to go up this season anyway, we are no where near ready for the Premiership and scrambling up via the play-offs followed by the purchase of a couple journeymen lower Prem players = struggle all next season and probable relegation. Would much prefer to carry on building the squad and style in the Championship for another year and then a big push.

We don't get to choose when we go up. I don't think we will this year but while we still have a fair chance of making the top six (in a season when the division is as weak as it's been for a long, long time - and might not be so weak for the foreseeable depending who gets relegated from the top flight this year) then that has to occupy our attention, not some competition we won't win.

Besides which, our parachute money runs out in 18 months, in the long term it would be very helpful to the club to win promotion, regardless of how any future Premier League campaign went. Much more helpful than sticking around this cack division for another year. We're already outgunned financially by a number of teams in this league as it is, that isn't going to get any better when there's an £8m hole in the accounts. I'd much rather us be able to fund the club and improve the squad continually without recourse to selling our best players, which is what will happen if we end up reliant on ticket income and the buttons you get from media deals exclusive to this division.

Guess I'll just have to agree to disagree with most on this subject, The Premiership seems pretty pointless for at least 15 teams, they will never win it, so most teams are pretty much in a relegation dogfight which I don't particularly enjoy whereas I always enjoy a good cup run even though I know we won't win it. I actually quite like the Championship, its highly competitive top to bottom and with teams playing a mixture of styles, that said of course I want Wolves to do well which means at some point they will be in the Premiership but when they get there I want them to be as competitive as possible.

There's no such thing as a team who "went up too early" and irrepairably damaged themselves as a result though. Teams that have stupidly overreached themselves once they got there, sure, but there's little prospect of Steve Morgan ever running a club that way.

Even if you believe that the Championship is a superior viewing experience to the Premier League (I fundamentally disagree but that's neither here nor there) - would you rather us be able to fund future signings on our own with cash reserves we've built up and a big chunk of income landing from the Premier League come what may for at least four years - or by selling an Iorfa or a Batth in the same way that we had to get rid of Robbie Keane 15 years ago? Because we'll always need new signings, and if they aren't being funded by Premier League revenues - current or historic - then the money has to come from somewhere else. I seriously doubt you will ever see Morgan chuck £10m at it like he did in his first 12 months here. Depending how FFP evolves he might not even be able to if he wanted to.

It isn't really a choice for me. As things stand there is no strategy based on biding our time in the Championship that is even remotely viable and nor would the end results be especially fun.

I didn't say the Championship is a superior viewing experience, rather it is a league that no team is significantly better ot worse and so is a more competitive league which for me makes it more interesting. You may be right about the financial side of improving teams but I'm not entirely sure even with the massive payouts (which I'm against anyway being a dinosaur) that a team like Wolves without the backing of a billionaire sugar daddy can afford the players and wages required to push the likes of Chelsea and Man City hard for the league. I know that teams like Southampton and Swansea are doing a very good job but doubt they'll ever seriously push for the league and will probably fall away after a couple of seasons when the big boys have stolen their best players. I suspect we will have to carry on finding good players at a lower level and bringing on our youngsters.
Its an interesting debate this and I look forward to seeing how it pans out
