Rubbish Pubs

Yeah, that bit has always been weird. Had a shit 80s vibe when I moved there in 2005 and I doubt it's changed since. It's totally at odds with the rest of the pub.
Usually nip for a quick couple after work on a Friday but never really need a piss so don't go through the bar bit, did today and fucking hell the smell... And couldn't help but laugh at the bogs. Proper time warp stuff.

The Moreton needs a mention here. From the outside it looks really nice, really decent outside seating area and the main eatery part is OK as well. But the little bar hidden round the back absolutely fucking stinks, dark and dingy and the bogs are straight out of the 80s. Bars on the windows and ‘BUSH IS A FAT NAKKA’ plastered above the pissers.
Is that where the dart board is if I remember rightly? I've not been in there for probably 18 years.

I went to this place before the Coventry friendly last summer, with Cov supporting mate who uses it to park.

Certainly the worst pub I have been in for 20 years.

Yeah that’s it. It hasn’t changed in 15 years so stands to reason it hasn’t in 18. And it seriously fucking stinks.

I worked in the Moreton 21 years ago, I'd wager the bars still the same. Always used to get the old boys in moaning about the sprinkler and which pump was pulling better. Wouldn't mind but they all used to drink mix

Going to have to add the Royal London on a matchday to the list.

Booking every table out to pricks who don't turn up remotely on time (I'd like to know how as well? Because you can't do it online now), nothing like enough staff behind the bar, but worst of all...

A "DJ" (some mook with a laptop) blasting out nonsense at a completely ear splitting volume. Please, tell me who you're catering for here. I don't see anyone dancing.

Honourable mention to the Tory Lych Gate for charging @Lycan £143 for a pint at the weekend too.

No DJ last Saturday but no chance of getting a table. Seem to have all been booked by Utd fans.

He can afford it, bloody Warwickshire elite.

I'm pretty much done with pre-match now on a Saturday, everywhere is a combination of too busy, too expensive or shit.

I go where the popular people go pre match. The London has always worked because generally there is room.

I was shocked by what happened to Lycan saturday - I am pleased for him that he has been refunded, although it is frustrating that they take the money within seconds, but it then takes them 3-5 days to re-imburse him for their own error!

Too many places are too crowded nowadays. Standing for 2-3 hours pre match isn't ideal. I feel for those travelling to wolverhampton for this experience. No-one wants to be in a pub too far from town/the ground, simply for access issues, and also time. But there was quite a discussion saturday as to what options exist for people, with no real solutions.

Genuinely concerned that when the weather gets nicer we're gonna be in west park with a few cans at this rate!

PS - the Tory Gate did refund Lycan in the end. Minus the cost of the pint :D
The fucking cheek honestly.

Just for the sake of the £3.80 they couldn't bring themselves to write off I won't be stepping foot in there again.

The original fuck up was an honest mistake made by an overworked barmaid. Inconvenient but understandable, I've been there myself. The rest is just taking the piss.

When I opened this thread I was expecting to see a mention of The Pendulum. Which is back in the news today.

EDIT. I’d not yet read the Landmark thread!

Compared to even 6-7 years ago...we've put close to 10k on the average gate and we've also lost a couple of town centre pubs along the way. The shit pubs are still shit and no-one wants to go to those, which squeezes it further. Good job Darlo never comes to games any more and tries getting people in Gammonspoons. It's an inevitable issue.

I'd do away with pre-booking and I'd have limits on numbers. Turn up late, that's your problem.

My favourite part of this, was it was some lemon ale served in a carling glass 😅

Had a similar discussion at the weekend about the demise of pubs in Wolverhampton. I can't remember the last time I went anywhere other than the Western before a match. It really does seem stuck behind the times.

At pretty much any other town or city before a game (even as an away fan) you have no issues finding a pub to drink in and often end up having decent conversation with the opposing team's fans without resorting to throwing glasses at one another.
