Could they not just work out how far behind the race leader all the cars were when the safety car is implemented and then add that onto everyone's time at the end? Or is that a really stupid idea

That's be the same as ending the race when the SC was deployed.

Masi after the 2020 Eifel GP regarding the deployment of the safety car:

Well the random act that triggered the issue was Latifi crashing, that's just bad luck for Mercedes. At that point they're between a rock and a hard place, end under safety car fucks one party and the late restart on a tyre mismatch fucks the other.

It's just bad luck mate, shit happens.
The SC isn't my beef, it's the unlapping of specific cars to ensure a dramatic finale. That wasn't bad luck, that was a conscious decision.

No Becusee what happens if it’s on lap 3?
But a random act unfucked them, the safety car is pure chance and at that point the race is back on.

No what unfucked them was an unprecedented decision from Masi

Correct. Purely because they were desperate for it to finish under racing conditions. The fact that teams agreed that they'd try and do that is what they'll cling to as an excuse for not unlapping all cars.

The VSC was bought in to try and remove as much of the unfairness of a SC. Unfortunately this SC couldn’t come at a worse time. Lap later and the race is finished. Few laps earlier and Mercedes may have risked changing tyres knowing they were going to be a sitting duck to Red Bull.

How it panned out Though is ridiculous and unfair. If they had red flagged it and let them have 4 laps of racing then that would have been far fairer yet Hamilton could still feel aggrieved that an easy win was taken from him. At least he would have had a chance though where in this instance he didn’t
I agree this would've been a better approach, and with a red flag, Lewis also gets a free set of new tyres, perfect. Clearly Max is still going to lunge in somewhere but that's that's better fight watching Lewis manage the situation.

Shall we put our applications in for Race Director?

Regardless of your views or whatever, watching it back from Daniel Ricciardo's view is something else

The side by side video after isn't bad either!

Just watching the re-runs of the Race to perfection on Sky F1 as Championship football is dull as fuck.

Who is the Greatest of All Time?

My top five:

Jim Clark
Ayrton Senna
Lewis Hamilton
Juan Manuel Fangio
Michael Schumacher

Honourable mentions to Ascari, Lauda, Vettel, Prost and Alonso

The shape of the new cars looks so much better, no-one done much to shake up their liveries from last year so far though.

That Alpha Tauri is magnificent. The 2021 cars look archaic already.

I'm really liking the longer curved lines on the new cars. Particularly the side pod structures and front wings.

So a few changes announced yesterday.
Won't be a situation like at Spa last year where they did 2 laps behind the safety and got 50% of the normal points.
From now on, that happens - no points. Has to be at least 2 laps without the safety car.

So it will go
2 Laps or less than 25% of the race done - Winner 6 points, down to 1 point for 5th place
25%-49% of the race - Winner 13pts, down to 1 point for 9th place
50-74% of the race - Winner 19pts down to 1 point for 10th
More than 75% - Usual points

Will be 3 Sprint races - Imola, Austria and Brazil
Points will now go down to 8th place. 8 for the winner.
The winner of the Sprint will still start in 1st place for the race but will not be classed as the Pole winner. That will be given to the quickest in the Friday qualifying
