Southampton 0-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Good point, no point changing the manager to have effectively the same performance levels.
I'd by lying if I wasn't a little concerned by decisions such as playing Saiss over Boly or still getting Marcal to cross the ball.

I suppose things like today's selection says that he's not happy with the squad. 2 keepers I think is making a statement. That said good to see Cundle getting in the squad, he's earned it
Yes agreed. The selections of Moutinho over Neves , Saiss over Boly , and Hwang over Traore were eyebrow raising before kick off. Only Saiss proved correct

Not sure about that.

I thought Moutinho did absolutely everything right and Hwang ran his nuts off.

I watched Coady absolutely tearing Saiss a new one at the end of the first half when he fucked around with it and nearly cost us. Connor was going crazy.

To be fair, it happens at least once a game when someone gives it to Saiss on his right foot.

We’re clearly an inconsistent team with inconsistent players. If they weren’t…they’d be at bigger clubs

Marcal shouldn't be in the team, and nothing he did today changes that. He's slow, can't cross (1 good cross aside),
Aaaah but by the 'Prawnking laws of Traore' that one good cross means he must be elevated to untouchable status and his other lack of attributes must never be mentioned ;)

The positives are that Raul got his goal and defensively we didn't do much wrong (even Marçal, while showing Conference level ability and composure on the ball, didn't get beaten much or put us in immediate danger).

Clutching at straws to pick out much more than that.
I think 3 points is quite positive to add to the things you mention.
I've not seen any of the game but I don't think anyone is saying we played well....people are just happy we won.
This game shows just what a crock of shit stats are in isolation. First 3 games we dominated possession and chances but lost all of them, following 3 games, less possession and goal chances but 2 wins.
Hopefully on Saturday we can combine both playing well and winning

If our new goalkeeping coach thinks passing it out from the back is the way to go going forward after the disasters it’s nearly cost us, I’d have made him walk back from St.Mary’s.

We have been getting worse over the last 3 weeks, typified by a shockingly poor second half today.

We won because Raul took down a long ball and created his own goal.

That's not on if Bruno wants to survive. It was worse than watching Steve Bruce/ Alec McLeish/ Paul Lambert teams.

Of course not, we have to get back to playing something like how we did in those first 3 games and turn that into points......but for today 3 points, a goal for Raul and a clean sheet is something to take from what was a poor performance.

Watching motd2 to see what they think. BBC had Raul as motm on their site followed by Sa

Three games great play zero points.
Next three games meh or worse 6 points
It’s a funny old game saint

I know it's probably just me, but it's pissing me off how vocal Young is, on the bench and in training. Just pipe down, glove monkey.

On the game...well, it was shit. And we more than played our part in it being shit. We couldn't have meaningful possession, and didn't create anywhere near as much as we did in the first three games - kind of like the style of the project has been sacrificed, and I don't like it. Bumbling to wins will only get you to mid table. Just keep playing the football and the results will come.

Delighted for Raul. I'm still worried about him tbh, he looks slower than he was, and I'm not convinced he hasn't lost something, but that goal will have done him the world of good. Hwang? Basically Andy Keogh, aye he? Bags of industry, little quality.

Defensively, again I felt the pressing was quite disjointed - it was in ones and twos rather than threes or fours, and that's another change from the early games.

I've had enough of Marcal, he's fucking shit, and the spaces between he and Saiss are constantly just gagging for through balls. I really want to see Boly in for Saiss. But more than anything I want us to be able to go 4ATB. Having an extra man in midfield or upfront would, I think, give us so many more opportunities, as the front three still sometimes look isolated from each other. We may as well do it now, with an easy run of games coming up, and drill it in properly, and figure out what we really need (even though we all know) in time for a big push in January. Stop laughing at the back.

I don't want another season of just blurbing our way to 13th, I want full Bruno, even if it means fewer points in a transition season. Because today was shite.

Full Bruno with this squad = relegation or a bloody good dabble with it. He's been cut off at the knees we all know that and has to compromise because if he'd lost today and next week, he'd have been canned.

Strange people are more negative after a game we won than 3 we didn't

Spot on. He's a new manager and part of what he needs is points on the board. I'd he went full Solbakken he'd be getting pelters, as you say.

It's not like today is the blueprint for how he wants to play. We have a bit of breathing space and it drops Southampton further into the shit. Job done

I think Lage is very canny. He seems to tweak things to make the most of what is available. Do I always agree ? No. But he has already shown he will change people if they aren’t playing well, regardless of reputations. That’s good

Depends whether you’ve watched the games and like football I guess.
