Now that's two totally separate arguments. Fabio, whatever, but not having an alternative to Raul post selling Jota, that's inexcusable. Walked into trouble there. It didn't need to be a £35m alternative, just an alternative
I tend to agree with you mate, but who could we have got realistically? They'd have been coming with the expectation of starting zero league games. It's quite a hard sell.

And then of course it's still a risk they might be shit, I mean imagine if we signed William Jose last summer for 20 million, decent goal record in Spain blah blah blah. In most universe's we probably wouldn't have even known he was shit as he'd never have played, it was just unfortunate with Raul's injury.

It's ok having an alternative, but if they aren't any good, you might as well not bother really had you. At least with Silva, he might be good one day.

Rhian Brewster?

Never a big fan of who could we have got? Not really my job, that's what we have a recruitment team for. Jose was an upgrade on Fabio until the last month when it dawned on him he'd not be signing permanently, £20m would have been ridiculous though. Charlie Austin would have been an upgrade on Fabio on that period between Raul getting injured and Jose joining. After that had some nice cameos which both of us agree is what he should have been used for. We spent 2.5 of the first 3 years under Nuno without an obvious replacement for Bonatini and then Raul, but had Cav and Jota who could do a job if need be, then last season just a kid and that's when we ended up needing it

It was a massive gamble wasn't it, if you keep crossing the road without looking eventually your going to get run over aren't you mate.

In hindsight it was probably a better idea to spend the Fabio money on a top centre back last year. That's the position in the team that hadn't been addressed for the longest time. Imagine if we got someone like a Fofana. It would have negated alot of the issues of last year in that a back four would have been more viable, so Raul's injury probably wouldn't have hurt us as much.

As it was, it was between a rock and a hard place as we kept conceedig with the 4, but couldn't score with the 3, but Raul was the one who made the 3 work.

I'd rather have spent 10-15m on a striker from the champs or top L1

£10-£15m wont get you much from that level really. Villa had to pay £30m for Olly and if Brentford had stayed down they would be picking up another £30m+ for Toney (a player many moons ago we had agreed a £250k deal but it fell through).

Anyone scores a decent amount of goals at that level and you get an extra £10m English tax thrown on top these days.

If they wont get promotion i certainly think you can make a bargain..the top 6 clubs wouldnt bother anyway

Wasnt the fee Chelsea wanted for Abraham £35million when we were apparently interested? That's a better comparison if I am remembering that right.

For one, he is a striker, secondly wasnt he already a prem player that has scored a lot in the champs and also in the PL and in the CL and also is contracted to chelsea?

I do think we should have paid for Abraham instead but time will tell, guess it is Mendes and all that with the portuguese players

Tammy not coming here was nowt to do with Jorge. Goalposts on the deal were moved and we (rightly) walked away

Chelsea have said they are now willing to listen to offers for Abraham.
