Why are we failing to get our targets?

Ah, 'pushing the boat out'. More cliches that don't mean anything.

We are not pushing the boat out are we?

We got one....Afobe...an unproven striker.....if your impressed with the transfer dealing ......well i for one are not

Our dealings in the summer was poor

Our dealing this window has been poor

We lack ambition and are throwing away an opportunity...

Next year will be much harder

We failed to get a striker in the summer, which was wrong, but other than that we did okay. There are players that have moved clubs in this transfer window that I'd have liked us to sign, Foreshaw being one, but we don't know anything about those deals.

I'd say our first eleven is close to as strong as you can get in this division, so you have three options, buy lesser players, over spend on players or take a risk on lower league or foreigners. Not sure any really appeal.

Also, as we look like we are 'pushing the boat out' to sign Zyro, then firstly will you be happy with the window if we sign a player you've never heard of? And secondly if we don't sign him then is the clubs fault if we don't do anymore in the window?

Don't forget everyone bar none was happy with our signings back when Stale was boss and look how that worked out.

All this goes back to my original question and also asks whether we should stick to this philosophy or change it?

Our transfer dealings in the summer were atrocious Penk. Pretty poor in the loan market but look to have taken a turn for the better with the signing of a proven goal scorer albeit at a lower level.

Improving the first XI should always be the aim and we've done that well with youth players but poorly with transfers and loans. There's plenty of glib phrases knocked about this time of year but it is clear that if we want to have a better chance of going up then we need two more players, one wide man and one attacking midfielder.

I we want to get out of the division that should be the aim of all the scouting staff. Of course we don't know if that is the aim of the club. Top 6 or top half may have been the goal at the start of the season.

who are these Strikers/dealings we could realistically have got in the summer?

Wilson - £3 million plus add ons, as unproven at this level as Afobe, without the pedigree of an education at a top academy.
Grabban £3 million think he had 1 goal at this level, had to fight to get back here after getting hot with Rotherham in D2.
Brit Asmou - £6 million - never would have paid that.
Hogan - 800k rising, one good season in D2, yet to see him properly to judge if he will cut it. I was keen on the lad but wouldn't have backed him to the amount Brentford did.
Andre Gray - 500k plus with add ons, unproven above D2 level.

few others that might be worth mentioning, Cameron Jermone for 1.5 and people would have moaned and I guarantee that "he ain't good enough". Delort (don't need to add to this). Go look at the championships top scorers, and tell me which ones you would get for less than we have so far paid for Afobe.

I am seeing us not getting targets, I am not seeing a lack of ambitious.

I'm not being snide, you are peddling cliches with no solutions and more than one person has asked you questions which you won't answer. Essex Wolf II.

Easy to say stuff with hindsight. The vast majority of Wolves fans were very happy with the signings of O'Hara & Johnson in one certain close season. Lets remind ourselves how well that went.

The difficulty is signing a player ready for the first team. As well as costing £££, there's a dressing room impact too, & I suspect KJ et al are considering that. For eample, it is rumoured Wood had pretty excessive wage demands in contrast to the rest of the first team squad. If that is part of the reason we didn't go ahead, then I have to say I'm broadly in support of that ethos.

Says what I'd like to say better than I could. Option 1 is pretty pointless, 2 is very risky, 3 less risky cost wise, but as you say, very unappealing.

How was it? We signed one of Peterborough's better players, a highly rated kid from Chelsea and an unknown overseas player with a decent reputation. Taking hindsight out of the equation, that wasn't bad.

We fucked up with Wilson and I'm sure the club believe so too. That said, can we compete with a multi billionaire?

I would hazard a guess that Van La Parra, Saville and Rowe were the top targets in the summer but we didn't get the striker we were looking for. I also think tht Afibe was up there as a primary target and we got him.

Go back to last season, McDonald w ain't the first central midfielder we were in for...but it hasn't worked out too badly Jackett identified and got Ricketts, again not to shabby last season. Goldbourne and Henry were also two that Jackett clearly wanted.

I reckon that since Jackett rolled up, his success rate hasn't been too bad a few we know have slipped through the net, most of the other players we've "lost out on" we can't even be sure the club even wanted them.

Wilson was out for a considerable length when we brought Clarke in. I suppose we could have gambled at the time..

This summer, not last season. Jackett has said that the club felt he was too expensive and then bid the same amount for Delort.

Ok my apologies Penk. I was chomping on the Agard bandwagon but the way he dropped down a division was a strange one.

Have to say that I think the naysaying group here are being massively harsh on the club.

Really? Saville highly rated? I bet you could count the number of people on one hand who'd heard of him let alone highly rated him, and somebody thought he was worth £1m. That's poor, I'll give you Rowe and you could say he's been unlucky, but then again I think KJ has used him poorly. Nobody had a clue about VLP and none of the signings addressed the weakness up front or the cover wide left.

And if KJ knew already that Edwards was the preferred option behind the front man then it's staggering that we didn't buy a player in that position. All in all I would say it is a poor start to the championship for the recruitment team.

Yeah, not sure what the deal is with him. I'd have been happy to have signed him in the summer. Him and Dicko ripped us apart at New York.

Saville was very highly rated at Brentford. I started my post that we screwed up with the forward, but that aside...

Not sure why you'd want someone to sit on the bench behind Sako.
