Wolves 3-0 Everton: Verdict Thread

Alan is right he does have a low centre of gravity when running with the ball which is why he's extremely difficult to knock over. He's very much like an NFL running back in that regard. Low bursts of power and body strength.

He has good feet but I wouldn't say he has "tricky" feet. He's just as likely to fall over someone than beat them with skill. It's usually a 50/50 in that regard especially when he's not quite on his game like the last two.

Really impressed with Podence’s movement and general play, it gave us something a bit different for sure. For all Traore’s great attributes he does pretty much just stand out on the right wing. Podence and Neto were switching around a lot and causing problems. Jota came on and was great, so pleased he made up for the first miss by smashing in the next one (what a pass from Neves btw!). I have no idea how Traore missed that one at the end, at least it didn’t matter!

Everton were shit but who cares!

My point was simply:

Wolves are a more fluid team without Traore.

I think this because:

He stays out wide/his movement isn’t as good as the others.
He is very direct and doesn’t have the interplay of the others.
Our players expect him to be direct so all move to the box when he gets it’s rather than working opportunities through interplay.

Didn’t think it was that outrageous, still don’t.

Whether i wrote it badly, misinterpretation, whatever. Now without picking small holes, if you dont agree with the overall tone of my message, our understandings are very different.

I’m sure no one else wants to read the last few posts, but it’s kept me entertained in Merry Hill if nothing else.

I get what you meant and agree.

I disagree on the he’s a powerhouse bit though, he beats them with skill initially first, especially in the tighter situations. There are times in transition where he can push it into space past player which is obviously very effective. I think, oddly, his dribbling technical ability is quite underrated from the outside because of his unique speed.

Agree about moving into those positions. I think he is gradually learning tbf, just he favours pulling wide to receive as you say Which I guess is understandable from his point of view
Think there was signs of different movement from him against Villa, stayed a lot more central and had a bit of a running battle with Luiz as he kept getting the ball into feet with his back to goal. Against Arsenal too there was a time he picked the ball up and drove inside, ended up in a huge space between their midfield and defence with none of the latter stepping out to him but no-one showed as an option and think he just ended up blazing it over the bar from the edge of the box.

There have been signs of some decent interplay too, him and Doherty seemed to be building a decent understanding before lockdown called things to a halt. He's definitely improving his awareness of what's around him and utilising team mates more than he used to.

In one of the recent games he had a nice little link up with Jimenez about 30-40 yards from goal, akin to what would've seen with Jimenez and Jota last year. Think they exchanged a few neat passes around an opponent before Traore tried to run in behind, Jimenez had a bit of space but tried and failed to force it through for Traore when it was better to go wide to Doherty as the fullback tucked in on the cover.

Well that was very satisfying. Think I may be banned from watching us live by my lads for the rest of the season, had a family thing lunchtime so haven't seen the game yet. On Moutinho, he really needed a break, not just physically but probably mentally too. Its good to see we can mange without him but suspect we will be under more pressure than today in most games. Delighted Podence had a good game on his first start, pity about Neto. Need to follow it up with a similar performance on Wednesday

Is there anywhere I can(legally) watch a re-run of the whole game? I don't have Sky

Neves was so good today. I wonder if it's because Moutinho wasn't playing that he took on extra responsibility to try to run the midfield?

He's been excellent for months, i would say since January he's probably been our best player but that goes unnoticed at times when Adama and Jimenez do what they do. Difference today was it was so noticeable how good he is when Everton let him do what he wants and he also had a fully fit midfield partner next to him today which would help. Personally i would say outstanding pass aside he's played better than he did today numerous times this season too.

Agree with that, Neves has been absolutely fantastic the second half of the season, both creatively and defensively. Fantastic footballer.

Basically since we stopped asking him to sit next to Coady in the 352 he’s been magnificent. What a player.

Reminded me very much of the season we played to win the championship. An excellent 3-4-3 performance.

Neves was also my motm, however have to say also that Coady had an exceptional game, and Podence impressed with his chance.

Neto's dead ball delivery is excellent btw. His free kicks and corners have in the main been very good.

Am I alone in having concerns re Boly? He had a good last 20 mins today, but I thought he wasn't good the first 70, and he's been 3rd out of our CBs for me in the previous 2 games as well.

Jota's talent is clearly instinctive. If he has to hit it quickly, he scores. If he has enough time to think, like the first chance, he can over-think it. Phenomenally good goal - love to see him go on a little run now.

Good for Raul to get almost 15 mins off. Would have been inclined to bring on MGW behind the 2 instead of Moutinho personally, but can totally understand bringing Moutinho on to close the game down.

Could easily have had 2 or 3 more today. Really hope we do burnley midweek after the home game ending 1-1 with their dour tactics.

We got lucky against Burnley at home. Totally out of the game in the first half and lucky to only be 1-0 down. Didn't create huge amounts and got a slightly iffy last minute penalty.

I don't like the way Dyche plays (though respect what he's done) but we should have lost that one.

Yeah, couldn't deal with the front two at all if I remember right

Will be a tough game, they look quite sharp to me and McNeil is very dangerous.

They were wasting time from the 10th minute, and that has stuck in my craw ever since.

I went to that game. Absolute shithouses the entire Burnley team.

.

No, no you're not ! some of his passing recently has been very hap hazard and nearly caused trouble a few times.

I can only remember 1 moment with Boly yesterday. Loose touch but he recovered from it with a little help from Coads.
He was fine yesterday, crap v Sheff Utd though.

It was good to see Saiss return to a bit of form though, he had been the worst of our 3 defenders since the return.

God that was so much better than we've seen since the restart. Some lovely football, bags of attacking intent, and they looked like they were enjoying themselves. Neves was phenomenal, podence looks a player.

Pleased we limited them to only 2 proper chances despite the obvious shift in philosophy too, cracking performance, absolutely spot on by Nuno

Non Wolves highlight yesterday was Jamie Carragher forgetting he was live on TV and losing his shit when Sigurdsson played his 1000th pass backwards

Also enjoyed the Everton rage at Pickford laughing about almost throwing the ball into his own bet again.
