When you had to finish top of your home league, That we won in two consecutive seasons, to qualify for a cup where you had to win every game or you went out, non of this playing for a draw in the third game to qualify third in the group to go through
Simple answer to that is that it was much harder to qualify for but easier to win than it is now.

Is that an American thing? I always figured it was just a universal English mixup. Like people responding “yes” to “do you mind if…” but they’re actually saying that they don’t.
We would say 'I couldn't care less'

Which, by amazing coincidence, is exactly my opinion of the last page or two of this thread.

Fwiw that’s correct on both sides of the pond, even if we fuck it up more consistently. It’s one that really bugs me, too.

So if we’d have done it in 79 and 80 you’d have said “ it’s no big deal, it’s really easy to win” nah, you’d have been going nuts like the rest of us.
It’s a weird hill you’ve chosen, of a small club from the midlands coming from nowhere to champions of Europe twice is no big deal, the fans are still celebrating it, and having the stars on the shirt when it was 45 years ago.
But yea, you carry on

Yeah, sorry Basher I don’t get it either. I was born in ‘84, went to Wolves with my dad throughout the 90’s when we were shite, but my dad always taught/told me about our history and the glory days of the 50’s etc.

It’s part of our history and we should be proud of it. Same as Forest should with the stars on their shirts.

My boss is a Forest fan and he's never had the love for him we did. You'd think he would after what they did last season. Just before it happened he was saying how Nuno won't play any of the new players he'd asked for.

This is well off from the Forest fans I have seen though and the one I do still know. Some of what I have seen is that Nuno wasn't a fan of Edu and that many of the transfers brought in weren't what he wanted. Particularly Hutchinson. Who has been pushed on him by Edu, who has prior with slightly controversial transfers and working relationships whilst at Arsenal.

I have talked to him about Nuno loads. We saw him pretty much playing the same XI and few subs, seems he has done it at Forest too (I know that's probably not so unique). I've said he will really want to trust the players in their roles first and that he likely blocked some transfers here, and might not have been able to with their crackpot owner.

He goes to some games and the rest of his family still lives in Nottingham, where he used to have a season ticket. He knows how much Nuno means to us, never really got the impression he thought that much of him though. Again it seems surprising to me given how well they did last season and seeing him in a few interviews and such, being the shield for his team and mentioning fans etc. I asked during last season if he/they felt a togetherness, got their club back sort of thing and he didn't say a fat lot.

Still sore from my suggestion that one day Fabio Silva might match his output, Rafa Mir bags once again. This time against his old club Sevilla.

American commentators losing their shit over overhead kicks will never get old.
I honestly think they're encouraged to go OTT, either to luck into something that will play on social media, or as a kind of lure for folks who aren't into the game (which is still a huge number of people tbh). Grab their attention, you know.

Do I think those are necessarily good ideas? Eh. It wears thin fast.

To their credit, by and large I think we get pretty good analysis from our talking heads from both sides of the pond, surprising as it is.

Connor Ronan got the assist in 90'+6' for Colorado's winner last night, putting them 5 points clear of 10th in the West (ergo, 5 points clear of the playoff line).

As they say in the Rockies, up the fuckin' 'Pids.
