The Rugby Thread

Thought it was a knock clearly swings his arm forward but a close call.

Lovely worked try for England in response though. Farrell kicking has been shite.

To be fair Wales should have had a penalty in the build up to the England try

Possibly, difficult those though - he jumped into his arms.

Yep, France have been very good considering their lack of experience. Need to be smarter.

Steve Thompson has no memory of the 2003 Rugby World Cup . Diagnosed with the early stages of dementia at 42 years of age .

If ever there was a need to accelerate the elimination of head high tackles and chest high tackles , then now is the time . It won't take all collisions away , but it would be an excellent start .

There's a general reckoning coming in union I think - the force in hits these days is so much greater than in previous years. It can't carry on as is.

Yeah, I don't see what else they can do apart from from lowering the tackle area, probably below chest height. Compared to when I started watching it the players must be 50% heavier on average, the big guys are much fitter and quicker and they train much harder

Tackles only below the waist might be an option perhaps.

Possibly, compulsery headgear too maybe. The traditionalists will argue long and hard against any major changes of course but they're gunna have to wake up and smell the roses if they want rugby to carry on as a major sport in the future......if you get more and more evidence that rugby affects brain injuries, how many parents will allow their kids to take it up

Those who argue that tradition must be maintained usually played a long time ago - when players weighed far less , wingers were smaller , quicker and lighter .
Nowadays all players at the highest level are built like tanks .

Players didn't weigh that much less in the old days, they were less muscularly defined. but most front rows (including the Pontpool one :) ) were usually wider than they were tall !
I think they are heavier from the point of defined muscle, the point is they are decidedly quicker and more athletic nowadays.

The referee seems to have decided Scotland are winning today.

He was very generous early on to give a penalty against England after Itoje charged down apart from that England have been appalling

Scrum pens are total 50/50. Ref picks a favourite and that’s that.

Scotland good value for their lead do far. England look rusty.

Scotland look really good, out gunning England in every dept, however only 2 points down at half time..........England can't be that bad in the second half, can they?
