West Ham 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Didn’t watch it live today but followed the thread. Have decided to torcher myself and watch it now (can’t not really).

First minute in and a Marcal throw by their corner flag end ups at Hwangs feet 25 yards out. Instead of combing with a front player and trying to work a shooting opportunity, or just lump it in the box, we go all the way back to Sa. Now if Kilman (or Neves) had just advanced into the 40 yard space that no West Ham player was anywhere near, then a simple square ball from Hwang starts a promising attack. But no that makes too much sense.

Oh Trincao has just bottled his first challenge. Was favourite to get there and start an attack/get rice booked. Oh and there’s another one. Think I actually hate him. Just fuck off out my club.

Looked neat and tidy as a team first 15 but it’s all very safe. Just get to the final third then go backward. Not a single player capable of making anything happen on their own, and no sign of “80% of our training is attacking”.

Playing a back 3 AND Neves dropping into it. How is this a good idea?! Basically playing with a back 6. When do you see Rodri drop that deep in a back 4? He doesn’t. So either Neves isn’t good enough to receive the ball in tight spaces/facing the wrong way or it’s dreadful tactics. Probably go with the latter.

Long goal kicks/hoofs to The tank that is Kurt Zouma.

Chips up the line as no one offers for the ball. Can the CB not Have the WB drop short to play a little give and go to then drive up field and take players out the game. No they just hide from it and any ball into midfield goes backward and then hoofed. Awful

Hwang has tried but too safe/shit in possession. Fabio feeding off less than scraps. Trincao anonymous. Hoever no redeeming features. Marcal just a body. Kilman blowing his England chances. Sa done what he’s had too.

I look forward to the second half!

I missed the first half (listening on radio we started well then from 15-45 really struggled).

second half we dominated possession and were largely in control if a bit toothless. I thought Fabio was quite good and i but we encouraged by his movement and confidence to shoot.

I think the 442 with Podence and Neto as the wingers coming inside has potential but not sure if we have the players across the pitch for it.

there seems to be a lot of anger tonight. I think I have expected us to drop off for a few weeks now so maybe that’s why It’s not triggered me as much. We don’t create much and we’ve relied on Sa a lot this season. Got to find a way in the long run to be better in all phases of the game. I do think Bruno has it in him to do that

oh and Hoever is very poor really isn’t he. I’ve been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt for as long as possible but every attack that got to him seemed to end so quickly

Bonus Francisco Corica marks today for ending a move by falling over the ball on the edge of the box, then getting play stopped for staying down with a non-existent injury.

More guts in a cheap sausage.
Just got back. Can’t be arsed to repeat what many have said on here. But Trincao’s lowlight for me was in the first half when he took a walk off the pitch the took an age to saunter back on. Never want to see him in a Wolves shirt again.

I think a lot of our problems today were exacerbated by our negativity, Ruben was at fault more than I would expect tbh, he's obviously our best player but thought we brought a lot of pressure on ourselves by going backwards/sideways when we didn't need to...maybe he just didn't trust his team mates.

Second half starts and another throw in by the corner flag goes back to Sa. Is it a fucking tactic or what?

And we set up an attack for them from the resultant hoof. Better off getting Ryan Bennett and the towel back.

Most of them don't even trust themselves let alone one another.

Kilman getting a bit of stick today and tbf he hasn't been at his best for a few games, bit churlish to criticise him as he's been superb for most of the season...wonder how much Semedo missing had an effect on his performance?

Without Doubt. Hoever looks like a 16 year old academy product who has never played first team football before, being asked to play out of position with an hours notice. Sadly none of that is true and we’ve paid £10m for him

West Ham have a throw in near our corner flag and actually try an attack and score. Maybe we should try it??

That is fucking horrific from Saiss. Not really sure why Coady doesn’t try and get tighter and stop it at source either. Just allows him to pick someone out. Even if Saiss was doing his job that lack of pressure probably leads to some form of goalscoring opportunity. Really bad from Coady for me

It feels like like our throw ins are becoming a cliche, seems all of ours just turn over possession, while oppositions always lead to good attacks

We don’t even try anything. We feel getting the ball back to Coady as a good result. Why? That isn’t a dangerous position. Worse than that today though going all the way back to the keeper and actually setting up attacks for them.

Trincao didn't even look at Bruno when he was subbed off.

Forget signing him, if he plays for us again we should:

A) Ask serious questions of Bruno
B) Ask serious questions of Chiquinho
C) Ask serious questions of the scouting department

We should probably be doing C regardless.

The first 3 games of the season was a revelation, yes we lost, but we played probably the best football since returning to the premier. What's happened since then ? I don't like us losing, but i'd prefer losing that way than the current negative performances.

C on Hoever for sure.

To think we handed back around 25% of the Jota fee on him. For fuck's sake. Can't see how he would ever have impressed anyone, it's not as if he's raw but got natural attributes. He's about as quick as Doherty, no better defensively than Doherty and as good going forward as Neill Collins.

We really were not that good.

Played miles better than that loads of times under Nuno.

A little word on Neves. One of the finest footballers I’ve ever seen wear a Wolves shirt. Actually, maybe, the finest.

I was quite near the front today and watched close up - he shows for absolutely everything. He wants it in tight spaces where others wouldn’t dream of making themselves available. And everyone looks for him. Every single time. If in doubt……give it to Ruben.

So, guess what, sometimes it’s not going to go perfect for him - especially when his midfield compadre is Donk.

If and when (and maybe soon) Neves goes to one if the big boys, we will see him just do the simple things well - rather than trying to do everything (and without the expectation).

He will be like Rodri, Fabinho, Fernandinho and all those other boys that are recognised superstars without always being……the superstars.

Wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Second half was better, Kilman certainly better. I think Donck had a good game for him (some terrible moments but still). Not sure on the Fabio hate, was way better than Raul has been and it’s not his fault we decided to hoof it at him first half.

We were probably lucky to only concede one but the one we have conceded was rubbish.

At the end of the day we were just too negative, had too many rubbish players on the pitch and don’t seem to (still)have a way we plan to score a goal.

We could get away with having Hwang in a good team, but we’ve got no chance if he’s the best (and only) player able to progress the ball up field until we made the changes. He was ok but he’s never going to create anything and we know that. But neither are Donck, Trincao, Marcal or Hoever. You can’t play all of them at the same time! And with Neves playing CB where are you going to get a goal!?

Literally no reason for Hoever, Marcal or Trincao to play for us again. Hoever can go on loan until his contracts up. Marcal can be released and Trincao can fuck of to beach soccer or whatever.
