Blues 0-2 Wolves: The Verdict

One question. With Holt replacing Afobe, is he now above ALF in the pecking order?

Yeah, but normal with a "young and hungry" team...inconsistent

We've been consistently bad this season with a couple of brief bright spots.

I think KJ is looking for a big guy to throw in if we are not leading..hoofball and hold it up and so on..just physical preference i think

Edwards had a good game, if he always played like that then he wouldn't be an issue. It's when he goes weeks and weeks without contributing anything but remains locked into the starting XI that I have a problem.

If he's going to play in that position then he needs to score more goals than he historically has done at this level, because six or fewer over a season is not good enough - he scored six league goals last season which was his best ever haul at this level, so he really hasn't fit the brief of a goalscoring midfielder particularly. He's doing alright this season so far in that respect, four in ten is around the ratio we need (albeit he punched one of them in). We're never going to get creativity from him, if you're sacrificing that aspect of play altogether from a number 10 then they need to be scoring at the rate you would expect a decent second striker to do - like Kevin Nolan did down the years for his various teams.

Absolutely, if he scores it's fine, if he doesn't he contributes nothing. Someone made a similar point about le fondre, and he, maybe with Wallace are the alternatives.

Incidentally, goal aside (which was well taken), I don't think he had that great a game - he contributed absolutely nothing second half.

A good three points and a performance that says we shouldn't be in the bottom half, however until we can sustain this sort of performance for a month or so I'm not fully relieved.

That's where I am too.

Fairly pleased, thought Williamson looked decent and much better than I expected, however the CB's were being asked to sit in. I am not putting my cap on him playing like that every week, my geordie mates I watched the game with were really impressed by Williamson and were shocked he played that well, even at a lower level (Bizarely there are 3 newcastle fans that play for my footy side in Sheffield) Batth and Williamson had the game playing to their strengths. They won't be able to do that when we play sides at home though for example so am waiting to reserve judgement on what I think of the pairing, and I am not sure this gameplan would work against the more fluid sides.

Don't get me wrong, am pleased with the result, however it was a very astute tactical set up for me, for that very specific conditions of playing a side who haven't performed as well at home as they have away. That is obviously great to see, but long term I am still being wary.

May I just point out that I predicted we would win.

Dear Frank you always predict we will win mate and the laws of probability mean that sometimes you will be right. Fair play on this one. I guess you will be predicting a further 32 wins for us this year and that is fine but I bet you now that you dont get more than 20 right!

See the rest of the post you quoted for credit where its due. I dont think Im being unfair in asking where the $#@! that performance has been the rest of this season though. Today we exposed Brum for the poor side they are, why didn't we do that vs Bolton/PNE/Brentford etc?

That is the crux. We are five points off where I thought we would be so not far behind but I did not see us losing at Bolton , Brentford QPR or at home to Middlesbrough or winning at Fulham or Birmingham. Its all a bit topsy turvey. If I was to be negative I would say I will be happier if we get points from our next two games and build on this excellent result.
Did anyone notice Holt leave Ojo shot and it went into the corner? I thought that was quite classy from the big fella and he looks a little thinner than last year ( perhaps we got him the next size up kit!)
I do feel happier with a bit of experience in all areas. Edwards , Holt and ALF up front and Williamson at the back should be good for the youngsters coming through. Iorfa was brilliant yesterday but how much encouragement was he and Goldbourne getting from Williamson. In the first half it was non stop and their games were spot on. It may not have been the only factor but I am sure it helped. He also kept Martinez covered at the near post and as a result his handling and confidence were the best I have seen from him. Particularly positive given the goal conceded against Derby.

If we win 20 of the last 32 we will be going up!

For anyone else...

I wish it was possible to predict just that!

However, we seem to have found a pressing game against blouses, which worked really well according to those who were there or saw it, but will that continue or are we back on Tuesday to finding something that might work and changing the style again, for what seems like the hell of it.

I want us to find a way to play like last season (not necessarily the same way) but a way to play. If we start putting square pegs in round holes again, something has to be done about it.

I know Jinky and maybe others do not like me constantly predicting a Wolves win, but that is how I am. I always expect Wolves to win. It is a good job the internet was not about during the dark days, like a fool I expected us to beat the might of Newport, Halifax and Chorley...

Shame it didn't take a more awkward bounce and smack the dirty, cheating $#@! in his stupid fat face. And then go in for an OG.

This is the funniest thing I have read, ever, in 45 years of life. I have absolutely no idea why you dislike him so much but who cares ? Comedy genius !

I agree, second half especially Edwards failed to offer himself as a passing option when Blues were swamping midfield and McDonald was in need of that option.

Really??
Can I point you in the direction of Frank's Laughter Landfill or whatever it's called...?
